Silly question but I am completely new to the vibratory part: I see a lot of people describe doing the coarse stages in rotary and then moving to vibratory.
Would something like an MT-4 be able to do the entire polish run from start to finish? Or do people buy these for the second half of the process only?

Here's a great video from Michigan Rocks which explains the difference. You can do it from start to finish in a vibratory but your results will be different. The vibratory will not round the rocks nearly as much as a rotary. As Rob says - neither way is "the right way" - it just depends on what you want your finished product to be like. Should You Buy a Rotary or Vibratory Tumbler?

I finished my first batch that went through all stages (except coarse) in the mini-sonic. Mexican crazy lace from the rock shed. Overall I’m pleased with the results. The information here on the forum has been invaluable! ![](https://res.cloudinary.com/djj7v3jik/image/upload/v1680632439/vsy6nbrlsk6h7frd2msy.jpg) I need to work on my photography skills - I don't think this picture does them justice.
