I did a lot of preforming the other day and my shoulders were killing me afterwards. Here's just a few- So yesterday I went to cab and had every interruption- which was a good thing. I only did a couple... including my first doublet courtesy of jasoninsd . But, my shoulders hurt so bad that's all I could do. Besides, my daughter came over unannounced and plopped down. Today, I fought through the pain and did a bunch of hard stones.
First the doublets. Of course, they are much nicer in person. The depth doesn't show well.
My first one I cut, was a little thick, so I went back at it and flattened the dome out some more. (Thanks to Jason's suggestion.) I was afraid to dig into the basenite. I got over that on the next one.
Stinking Water Plume from Jason. Thank you, Jason!!! 36mm No scratches- lots of dust.
My second is a West Texas Plume. Doesn't really photograph well. I got this one thinner. (lots of reflections) 40mm
Then came the harder stuff. The botswanna is so hard and it was so thick. I had to keep giving my shoulders a break, but I got it done. 40mm
Some kind of beautiful agate. If I ever knew the name, I've forgotten. Pretty, though. 54mm
Dragon's blood rhyolite- Epidote & Piemontite -very hard. I love this stuff! Big cab. 55mm I don't know what kind of jasper this is, but the dots have some metal that is hard to see in the picture. Very hard, like a porcelain jasper. I forget the name, but I haven't seen anymore of it and suspect it was a one off rock. 45mm A Burro Creek plume from Tommy . Cool stuff.
Had to throw some softer ones in there to get a break.
This is a pretty granite or marble. I believe it came from fernwood a few years ago. Do you remember this, Beth? Much nicer in person.
Kokoweef cave onyx. Very soft. I was lucky to get a cab so big from this material. 49mm I was crazy to try to pull off that inside curve in this soft stuff, but it worked out.
And, that's it. I'm leaving Gene out, so I can cab tomorrow, too. I have a few that I started that I have to finish and one- my favorite one- (1st picture 2nd row 4th on the left) a thunder egg broke. I need to reshape it. DOH! A big part of the tip broke.
Thanks for looking.

OMG! The cabs are amazing Tela! Of course I love the doublets...especially that West Texas Plume! That came out amazingly well!! Gorgeous! The plumes do look a bit dense in that first one...but it still looks great. I keep seeing a white rose in the plumes - just above center on the left. That Botswana came out exactly like I thought it would...freakin' amazing!! Beyond great job on that Kokoweef!! That has really become one of my favorite shapes now!! Sorry about your shoulders...you might need to take a few Ibuprofen tonight if you're gonna get back at it tomorrow!

It wasn't there before I thinned it out. Glad I did. Good advice.

These are all amazing! So beautiful colors and patterns. The "hard, like a porcelain jasper" one looks so fashionable.

Thanks. The Botswana is incredible! Thank you! You can see the bot preform in the first picture. The pattern changed a lot in all that grinding, but I'm still happy with it. These are all amazing! So beautiful colors and patterns. The "hard, like a porcelain jasper" one looks so fashionable. Thanks! I wish I knew what it was so I could get more. Most of the slab was a dud, but a couple nice cabs can be had from it. Really pretty materials! I love them all. Especially like the “one off” unknown jasper and burrow creek and kokoweef and… LOL! Thank you, Khara. I'm partial to Kokoweef, but I do love that Bot.

Wonderful cutting, Tela! I keep going back to your preforms ... and wiping the drool off of my chin.

Just looking at all those preforms made my arms hurt! Well that and shoveling. Fantastic job on the doublets. Can't decide which one I like better. I see the rose in the SWP, too. They are all beauties, but that Bot and the one off are off the charts! Can't wait to see the Needles Blue cut, too.

Thanks- I like those, too.
That needles blue started to come apart, so I set it aside after I cussed a bunch. It's salvageable, but I was not in the mood to risk it the other day.

That surprises my on the Needles Blue! The two pieces I worked seemed really solid... Where the gem silica met the matrix- the matrix just popped right off. Luckily, it was pretty much on the line, so I think it will be easy to adjust the grind.

Last winter was the last time we had that much all at once. More, actually. This year we've had a lot of rain and rain/snow mix and only a couple of actual snowfalls of an inch or so. Prescott got hammered - they had 15 inches!
