I knew this rock was going to be insane the moment I laid eyes on it in the barrel at Tony's Quartzite spot. I have been trying to figure out how to cut it because it is like a half softball with a rough surface and no way to clamp it into the saw. I eventually screwed 2 2x4s together and used a stupid amount of wood glue to hold it. Waited well over a week for it to be completely dry and now it is in the saw and I am pleased so far. Every cut is way better then the last one. Even the end cut which is small is incredible.

Glue ups is about 3/4 of my cutting now, lots of the rough gets the end cut off then glued to 2x4 scraps with gorilla glue, need to get my super grinder set up so I can just grind enough flat for whatever dirction I want to cut.

So I have this rock glued to the wood and I look at it to determine how I should place it in the saw and where the first cut should go. I see a tiny little natural notch in the perfect spot and mark it with a marker so I can't lose the spot. Once the saw is cleared up, I place the rock in the saw and line the blade and notch up perfectly. Everything is a go so far. Everything is tight and ready to go. I close the lid and hit the switch. There is the quiet sound of the blade gently cutting the rock. Music to our ears. It is a small cut. It does not take long. I figure that the first cut will not be as spectacular as the other end looks like it will be. The cut finishes and I open the saw and pull the first cut out. I am happy and a little bit surprised that it was this nice from the start. Here is the first cut. IMG_2271 by mrk525, on Flickr

And then there was the next slice. At this point I decided that my hopes that this was going to be a superior rock were true. IMG_2272 by mrk525, on Flickr

After those slices I think you probably need to quit- no topping that. Can't wait to see what you do with them.

You owe Tony more money based on how much enjoyment you are getting out of the rock.

Cut a nice thin slice, about half as thick. See if you have turtle back or iris, looks like you should see some turtle back.
