MsAli and I picked these pieces up at a sale today. We're fairly positive it's covellite but would like verification. A few notes: not magnetic, streaks lead gray, heavy for it's size. The green color on the rind is making us question it.

I can't tell from the images. Covellite usually has a metalic luster

Have you ever seen it with that blue/green on the outside?
That's what is really throwing me
I know it's a copper complex (which is what that color tells me it is) but I've never seen covellite with it

Boy Ali, it has me stumped too. I have never seen Covellite with the green patina on the rind. I'm wondering if it's Covellite with a higher copper content than what I usually see. Hmmmmmm .........

Test the hardness Covellite is soft around 2 or under.

Roy, can you explain why you say that? I'd be interested in getting some edumacation. covilite metalic in nature even the rough is un mistakable ill try to take some photos tonight and post here

Test the hardness Covellite is soft around 2 or under. That is one thing we forgot to try, will try to scratch with a fingernail and see what happens.

This is covellite I believe that came from Tela The back (not polished) is very similar
