rockbrain There’s also lapis as a possibility but it looked a little closer to sodalite to me. I know what you mean about limited material! I dug through many many boxes looking and only found 4 slabs that I could find a mostly solid color area on. Many ended up having color or pattern variations that you didn’t really think about until you really studied it closely. My first one turned out pretty bad. It was Wonderstone but without any wonder! Just a brownish-purple portion. Really not pleasing. I was thinking about changing the contest theme to ugliest cab!🤣 I’ve got the other 3 preformed and hope one turns out.🤞
realrockhound It can be tiny. I actually thought we’d end up with a bunch of ring or earring sized cabs, people trying to squeeze out a small solid area of some material.

That was my plan, but any of the material I have that is “solid” just has too much variance in it. Like my holly blue. Not big enough pieces to include just the purple coloration, fades into banding
realrockhound I was looking at my Holly Blue as well. I had a tiny slab picked out. I think it’s the only piece I have that is actually slabbed. It was fairly consistent in color but really little. It’ll be a ring cab if I ever make it. I wasn’t in the mood to try something so small.

I have some Australian chrysoprase that would work. Might try that

Needs some more work. Will hopefully finish it off by tomorrow night and get my glamour shots. Going to set it in a ring. But this will be my entry if I get the time tomorrow.

MsAli I really like that. Never really was a jade person. I think cause I mostly see it used in carvings that aren't particularly my style. But, that cab turned out really nice. I love the deep dark green. And actually don't mind the orange peel. Think it's kind of interesting. Had no idea that could happen from heat...
I put it on a buffing wheel with diamond paste and I think that was my error. I have more of this so I'll give it another go without polishing it with paste
