My daughter goes to the Virginia Renaissance Faire every year. Each time she laments that she didn't get her hair braided. She has her corseted wench outfits. She needed the braids to go with it. She was determined this year. She got there early, got her place in line and was able to get it done with time left to enjoy a nice mead!
My daughter has butt length, super thick hair that she usually wears in a bun. This looks much nicer. They said it can last a week. It was 60.00 which I thought was reasonable. It took a lot of work! She said this year the crowds were much larger and more people were dressing up.

It looks great! I can't imagine sitting still long enough for someone to do that. I'm not that patient.

Tela, her hair is gorgeous, perfect for French braids. My late mother used to braid my hair for me, even though it was hard because it was all different lengths. I used to be able to do my hair in a regular braid, but not French. Now it has thinned to almost nothing. What's left I wear in a wispy ponytail, about six inches long (from the nape of my neck) and about 3/8 inch in diameter. Not like I go anywhere, other than grocery shopping and doctor appointments.
Years ago, we went camping with my husband's family in the desert a few times. His mom braided my hair once, it was hard for her to do. She was missing a finger and had limited use of another thanks to a table saw incident while making a garden rack for plants from wood lath. She didn't use the pusher on the last piece! Yikes! She did it when Bob was just out of high school, so before we met.

That's awesome! I went to some Renaissance Fairs years ago...MANY years ago, and I miss them! They were a really awesome time. I always sang at them...not solo! I was in two different choirs in college...and the "elite" choir always sang madrigal songs. We even put on a Renaissance dinner each year...and I got to play the "king" my sophomore year...much to the dismay of the upper classmen! LOL
Oh...as far as braids...I had kept telling my wife I was going to grow my beard long enough so I could braid it, but that's not going to happen since I had to cut it off for the new job! LOL

Very cool. I usually wear my hair in a braid but nothing as ornate as that. I think they call what I do an English or Dutch braid. I don't have a photo of the back but I think you can see it's braided.

It looks great! I can't imagine sitting still long enough for someone to do that. I'm not that patient. I hear ya! I have never even used a blow dryer! No patience for it. She did it when Bob was just out of high school, so before we met. My mom never did anything with my hair. She was not gifted with that talent and as a result- neither was I. I never did my daughters' or granddaughter's hair. I feel bad about it, but I just never learned and, honestly, didn't want to.
Dh used to braid my ponytail when my hair was really long. Like you, it has thinned so much that there isn't a whole lot left to mess with. That's awesome! I went to some Renaissance Fairs years ago...MANY years ago, and I miss them! They were a really awesome time. I always sang at them...not solo! LOL My daughters were both in chorus in elem school. It was called the Madrigals. You sound like you had a lot more fun, though. LOL! I never would have figured you for chorus, but you DID have an audience and THAT I can see. Very cool. I usually wear my hair in a braid but nothing as ornate as that. I think they call what I do an English or Dutch braid. I don't have a photo of the back but I think you can see it's braided. Well hello! That's a really nice picture. I can make out the braid. More than I can do!

Tela, we were in fact called the Madrigal Singers!!
I can carry a tune in a bucket...as long as there's enough people around me to drown me out! LOL

I spent a couple years between first wife and Elizabeth as full custody single dad of my oldest daughter, and a friends wife taught me to braid hair, I have braided both daughters and Elizabeth. I like to think I was good at it, they never complained anyway.

Never braided my full, waist length hair back in the early seventies but had to tie it back so I could work. Now what I have left is kept short and grey. rockjunquie

Your hair must be pretty long. I cut off a lot of mine a while ago, but it's grown back mostly. When I'm not braided, my hair goes to about my low back, not quite to my butt. It desperately needs a trim though. With my mom passing and everything I haven't had a chance to make an appointment.

Diane drocknut, I'm sure you know I haven't spent much time on RTH since December. I didn't want to come right out and ask, I thought that your mom had probably passed. My condolences to you. My mom passed in March 2018, and my MIL a few years before that. Now I have no one to ask to braid my hair, and no way in heck I can do it myself. But my dad is still kicking! He will be 95 in July. I've only seen him twice since I got out of the hospital, need to see him more often while he is still with us. Will make a point of visiting before I have my surgery on Jun 22, next week!

Glad to hear that your dad is still with us. Definitely make it a point to visit him before your surgery, ya never know what the future holds or how long you have left with your dad. I was thinking my mother would outlast me but unfortunately that was not to be. Hope your surgery goes well. Sending prayers and healing vibes, Diane

Between myself and Bob, our calendar is pretty well filled up with dr appts. I have three MRIs of my spine (cervical, thoracic and lumbar) on Thursday. They want to make sure there are no other tumors hiding out. Then on Friday, I'll be getting a call from Pre-op at the hospital for last minute instructions, go over my meds list, etc. On Monday 6/12 a pre-op appt with my neurosurgeon probably, will do more labs, and that's all for that week. Then the next Monday an appt with my PC doctor. He recently started me on a few meds that he wants to monitor how they are working - a statin drug for high cholesterol, and a drug to combat osteoporosis. I've also recently been diagnosed with hypercalcemia. He didn't add a medication for that, but had me quit taking any extra calcium, which I had been taking for the osteoporosis. Seems I also have hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland), that's probably why my hair has been thinning/falling out. That will be addressed later. As usual, I've just got too much going on at the same time! I'll try to be around more before my surgery date (June 22), just in case (kidding!) Tagging Jason jasoninsd just to let you know the time for serious prayer is fast approaching. Anyone else feel free to join in the prayerfest, I'll take all prayers that people will offer up for me.

Know that you are in my prayers from now until you give me the "all's clear"...and then I might keep you in my prayers for OTHER reason!!
