Man, now I really want to know!! There is something about this thread that is captivating! Has anyone tried sniffing it yet? He's for real: The sniff test is based on an odiferous scale from zero to 10. The stronger the odor, the less likely that it is coprolite. There is also the buoyancy test: if it floats in water, it is not a coprolite.

And then there's the lick test. Taste may not indicate anything but the gleam of agate under the crust often gives hope of high quality. Of course, if it's already cut open a guy can just splash water on it but a true purist connoisseur would never stoop to such shenanigans.
