liveoak Patty, I missed this post before I LOVE the earrings! That texture is awesome. Thanks for explaining the process.

Attempting to stay cool is about as close as it gets. Especially when I have to be outside and not in air conditioning.

Knowing how hot it is here Robin hummingbirdstones , I think real estate showing would have to be drive by's ! Unless they are really interested ! I'm thinking houses for sale have no AC on, sounds miserable.

My bench looks good on paper in “real life” it may be too heavy to move around. I hope it will function like the plan though. Heavy is good - makes it stable. Don't forget about adding a bench vice- sometimes I think that's the most tool I have. A good sturdy vice.
If your bench is to be mobile, put the biggest casters on it you can find - 4" min wheels ( so hubby says)
little wheels make mobility questionable they tend to jam on little pieces of dirt etc..
OTOH, now that I re-read, you said "portable" so does that mean roll around portable or pick up and carry portable ? Big difference - maybe you just need an engine crane if it's to pick up .
Are you sure you don't have a spare bedroom ? It must be time for those kids to get out on their own, eh ?
Patty...... feeling happy she was able to take over the spare bedroom. The current idea is to be able to pick it up and move it around. If that works I will be able to work on the patio, kitchen table, of anywhere I have a surface to sit it on. It may get too heavy and I will have to go with a stand on wheels, hope not but time will tell.

Most do actually. I have a listing that's vacant and the a/c is on. Set to 78 so it's not awful when someone goes in.

Beautiful work and the copper looks great.
Be very careful working with that type of stone.
Pietersite is one of several minerals that is known to contain significant amounts of asbestos.

I do understand that about Pietersite, and I've always done it wet, so there is no dust.
Actually, the 3 cabs in this post were purchased, pre-made from India - just the copper work was mine. But I have since acquired somewhat lesser Pietersite that I have cut & polished - but thanks for bringing it up- important thing for everyone to remember.

Hi Patty, You are welcome. I hate to hear of people unknowingly hurting themselves pursuing art.
Studies also show that the greatest source of asbestos and related fibers for jewelers and lapidarist was the cleanup of the area.
It appears that after cutting/polishing with water to keep the dust down, the lapidarist's sweep up/cleaning of the work area was the major vector for the air borne particles of asbestos.
The last thing you want to do is contaminate yourself, your home, family members, or shop with asbestos dust.
Take care!
Our shop cannot allow this material to be polished on site due to the potential health liability and property damages or potential site environmental cleanup costs.
The finished material is truly very beautiful for the wearer, and safe to wear.
Your work is beautiful.
Bests regards, ThomasT

Thank you, Dillon, Blue Pietersite really is something else. But I have found there are different grades of it.
I purchased a slab a while ago (Rock Shed), and although it has the beautiful color, it doesn't quite have the same depth to it, as these cabs do.
Thanks for looking, Patty

There were some beautiful slabs of Blue Pietersite right next door to Tony's booth at Quartzsite this year. With prices of $750 and up I passed!

Guess I'll be glad for the $25 slab I got from the Rock Shed a while ago. It's not QUITE as nice as my pendant cab, but I'm OK with that
