"Cut out for me"...see what I did there! LOL Been busy this week trying to break in my aggressive 80 grit wheel...so what better way than to final shape a crap load of preforms! LOL Most of this material is from realrockhound, some is from goldfinder and Thunder69, and a couple are from holajonathan. Heck, a few are even from me!! LOL I ground the edges on the 80 grit, then worked them down to the 280 soft. I find (for me) it makes working the girdle a piece of cake later on. I also bevel (or as rockbrain pointed out...chamfer is the correct terminology!) the bottom edge. This oughta keep me out of trouble for awhile! LOL

I'd say that's a LOT of work!! Looks good too. I always chamfer my bottom edge but almost never make a girdle. I hand make a lot of bezel set sterling and some gold jewelry and find girdles fairly useless. I find a stone that tapers sharply up from the bottom to the dome sets very well, better than a girdled stone. I think they look better too. Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Those look very nice!

Those look very nice! Thanks! If you're doing your own bezel settings, I can see why you wouldn't do the bottom chamfer. All of these are (in theory) destined to be wire-wrapped. I've found I actually do benefit from the bottom edge being chamfered...through trial and error of not listening to others before me! LOL - I chipped a few in the beginning when I was working the wire over the bottom edge...so for me, it's almost imperative to have it done.

3rd row 4th in from the left- Wow! That's gonna be a killer cab. But all of them look great and they make my hands hurt just looking at them. That's a lot of work!

Thatâs a chunk of vistaite from the junk pile. Funny thing is, if you saw the rough piece it came from, it literally looked like junk rock ð

That is a lot of work. Hope it doesn't become too much of a "grind" for you. Really great looking! Have to agree with rockjunquie that the vistaite is stunning.

I always chamfer, seldom make a girdle. The chamfer prevents chipping while grinding/polishing and makes it easier to drop the stone into a tight bezel setting. Very small chamfer or it will show when burnishing down the bezel.

LOL Thanks Tela! I'm pretty stoked about that one...and the other one...and the other other one...and the other other other one!! LOL 3rd row 4th in from the left- Wow! That's gonna be a killer cab. Hope it doesn't become too much of a "grind" for you. Really great looking! Have to agree with rockjunquie that the vistaite is stunning. Thanks Chris! That piece of Vistaite was part of the "end cut" on that piece. I ground off the edge of the piece of rough until I got it somewhat flat...then cut the slab. Fingers crossed it was the right move! PUNS GOOD! Keep up the good work! Thanks Pat! Now if "work" was really like this all week, it wouldn't feel all that much like work! Thanks! Truly a lot done Thanks PS! I thought within the last couple days I was going to get all my cabs done which are currently occupying my dops...but I was too drained after work to do anything other than being a couch potato in the evenings. I've got today off...so hopefully I'll get some more cabs done...then I can start on these! I'm with Tela. My hands are hurting just looking at them all! Yeah, the vistaite is amazing. Thank you my friend! The Vistaite is probably going to be amongst the first done out of this batch...oh who am I kidding...it WILL be! LOL Nice work Jason but please, please, ease up on the caffeine. jasoninsd Thanks Rick! I wish I could...but I'll readily admit I'm a dang coffee addict! LOL Nice work Jason but please, please, ease up on the caffeine. jasoninsd LOL RickB ! What a great picture. Looks like me in the morning. At least it's just the morning for you...I look like that all damn day! LOL I'm gonna grind the heck out of your junk!! Bow-chika-bow-bow!! WOW! What a bunch of beauties! Adrian Thanks Adrian! I'm so hoping you were referring to the preforms...and not Stephen's picture of Magic Mike! LOL I agree. This thread suddenly got WAY more interesting!ððð I totally KNOW you were referring to the Magic Mike picture! LOL

That's like a week of cabbing for you... ðĪŠ
Real Q though, would you consider that 80 grit wheel broken in now or is it still pretty harsh?
