You have a good variety of rocks and they are looking good. Nice photos, and a great beginner's tumbling progression story. I love the rose quartz. The only one I might be able to help you identify is what you think might be carnelian, I think it is a Brazilian agate. That's my best uneducated guess. Thanks for sharing.

Please if anyone wants to educate me on any of these rocks, chime in!

I'm late to the party, but congrats on your first tumble. That variety has to make you scratch your head wondering what else is out there

I missed this one earlier. Great polish on your first tumble! The one in the closeup that you asked about could be a part of an agate (I see others in your pics). Banding is very faint and fuzzy. If not agate, it could be some form of chalcedony.

rockinronda, I'm a little late to the party here too, you are doing a good job with apparently what you have to work with, keep it up, the learning curve is forever but gets easier. You asked at the start of the thread if anyone had gone vertical with rotaty tumblers. I built five of these 14 years ago, each barrel is one gallon capacity, or ~12 lbs. of rock. All were sold. Performance feedback was very positive on all.

Looks like a better mix of rocks than mine. Same tumbler, about 1/3 to 1/2 of the rocks I got were Dalmatian Jasper, the rest were bunch of Quartz varieties, Amethyst, other Jasper, 1 piece of tigers eye, some almost black rock (not obsidian) that is deep dark charcoal color and seems about as hard as Jasper, some sodalite, but no banded agates.
Some of the rocks were too soft and broke into small pieces, or wore down to nothing, in just a few days because I didn't realize Nat Geo would include both hard & soft rocks...
