So I got little one geodes for Christmas and will be cutting them. I bought from a different source.
Now I have gotten better at guessing the interior from the clean exterior. But I realize there isn't a resource that can be called on to spot the geodes from the exterior.
I know it can be a tough guess but from my growing experience, it's a repeatable observation

I can almost guess with certainty now which will yield plume and which ones won’t.

I will do my best to document before and after cutting. I hope to one day create a resource or thread people who now start into geodes can see an image of the exterior and not walk in blind.
I must say, these geodes (12 medium, 12 large) is a lot more variety than the nat geo kit

I like that one larger crystal in the last one! Like a big mouth with a snaggletooth.

The big black exterior one is going to ketch-ass to cut on the tilesaw.
It's designated "big chungas"

Well that was interesting.
I just finished cut them. My hands and shoulders...hurt.
I used the thin glass cutting tile blade. It was an arduous task to cut them. All were hollow to a degree or another. Big chungus had a hollow but mostly quartz. Cutting with this blade was slow and not easy. The thin blad wasted less material, and I did a small evening out of the saw marks. Not perfect but definitely more even for when I have to polish.
The set was much more interesting than the nat geo set by far. I was able to cut all, but the large set might have been a bit much for the tile saw.
I would definitely buy from them again

I agree, but their package per geode types aren't budget friendly.
It was my first time buying from them. I was cautious, but wanted to give them the best shot of success.
I must say it's tempting me for a 10 inch or lap saw, but neither are in my budget.
Their variety packs are quite good, and requires minimum cleaning. A quick wash and rub was all that was needed. And their packaging was neat and tidy.
My only gripe was the big ones may not yield to a simple hammer and chiseled.
Negatives out of the way, every single one.was a geode. Like pocket. Not the joke of the nat geo set. If anyone is looking to get geodes, these people are good. I went with the variety pack to see what kind of assortment would be given. They did not fail. I will definitely be buying more.
Am I strange if I don't want to iron clean the iron stained ones?.i think it adds to thr geode life story

I'd do the 3 inch if you have a 7" tile saw. Not sure how well they would fair to hammer and chisel? You are not crazy for leaving the iron.

lol, oh, believe you me, I may succumb to the coconut purchase. Personally, I like the variety for the sole reason it like a treasure hunt and you don't know what you are going to get. I was very pleased and had some interesting items.
The hammer and chisel worked out very good, but I like the smooth face cut. I set myself up when I bought the large, but I took the risk, and while they were not perfect cuts, I do not regret.
I would carry some to break with the hammer and chisel since nothing is more fun than the show that cracked geodes present!
