"I'm now draining to a small bucket, which I'll toss in my tumbling waste buckets to let more particles settle out before draining it to the sump."
I saw your comment in another thread, where you questioned rocknewb101 if the slow down was to due the wastewater disposal hassle.I am at the point where I have 4, 5 gallon buckets in the basement that need to be emptied and have been pondering with the idea to get a cheap aquarium canister filter, fill it with filter floss and run the water through that, after it settles for a few days, that way I can re-use most of it. I had remembered your shop set-up post and am curious if your method is working alright. Carrying buckets upstairs and outside down snowy/icy steps and trudging through snow along the garage to my dump site isn't feasible.

Carrying buckets upstairs and outside down snowy/icy steps and trudging through snow along the garage to my dump site isn't feasible. It's a bit too soon to tell as I only recently set up this configuration less than a month ago. But the buckets have already accumulated quite a bit on the bottom. To answer your question more accurately, I just poured off all the water from the bottom bucket into the top, and there was already nearly an inch of heavy mud in the bottom. I haven't yet poured out the top bucket all the way, as my evaporation bucket has not enough space to do so. Top orange bucket drains into the bottom, bottom drains into the sump. Top white bucket gets the heavy mud from the bottom, and there's a small computer fan on it to accelerate evaporation. I stole this idea from another forum member I can't remember who; their setup is a bit better, in case someone else remembers where that ducted fan setup was originally posted. Given how much sludge has already made it to the bottom bucket, I'm left wondering if I should add a third tier. But the sump basin remains clear as snowmelt continues to add cleaner water. Not sure if I'll go back to dumping outside once warmer weather returns as this-so far-seems to work very well and has unbeatable convenience.

Thanks for the response. Nothing is simple. I think I'll go with the aquarium filter idea. It only takes a couple of days for the particles to settle in the 5 gallon buckets and pumping them out with a 106 gph pump won't take long at all. $45 dollars for filter with pump and a few more bucks for a bag of poly-fill floss is cheap insurance in my eyes.

wickedpebbles: I bet that air cleaner hanging up there helps a lot. Nice set up.
