I would be in trouble if I only lived 45 minutes from that rock shop! You must live in the North Bay! Just checked Mapquest, Hopland is only 172.9 miles from Felton! Let's see what reason do I have for going up there - FISHING!

That fire agate is really nice, I like the one to the right. Did he have anymore like that piece ? If so give me directions to the place !

Nephrite, The guy had two boxes of fire agates. One had smaller peices like the ones I got and most had some fire. That was one had a little more fire compared to the rest but all looked good to me. The second box had larger peices that would lend themselves to cab-shapes but had less fire. If you want I can send you the two I got. I don't think I'll be getting to them anytime soon with all the other rocks I picked up. I will most likely be visiting there again soon. PM me if you want me to put them in the mail! Steve

Hey Steve, let us know when you're going. Tony was telling me he goes up to the north coast to go diving for abalone in April, maybe I can tag along and we can hit the shop then.

I want a rock from Japan! I did too, but unfortunately I went straight from Narita (airport built on landfill) to Tokyo Disney (entire park and resort hotels all built on landfill) then back to Narita, no time to look for rocks, but probably no rocks to find there even if I'd had the time. This Hopland place might get a visit this Saturday though, any of you local rockoholics care to make the sojourn with me?

Rally, I would love to go, but I have been volunteered to help set up the firehouse for the Luck of the Irish Casino night. A fund raiser for the local schools.
Have fun! Cal

Aw guys, Rallyrocks is going to get all the good stuff! Well, if I can't make it (rough plans this weekend, if they fall through then I'll be in. We are supposed to barrel tasting. I had to ask "is that barrels of rocks? cool. No? Wine? Oh, alright) maybe there will be another trip in the future. That brewery did look good too. Steve

Rocklicker - that rose quartze brings back memories - it was in the first batch of stones I ever did (A Quartze Pack).
May have to get some of that next.

OK here I go, but first a modified serenity prayer; (with apologies to AA)
God grant me the serenity to buy only rocks I can afford Grant me the courage and strength to dig through the cat poo to find rocks I can afford and the wisdom to know the rocks I can afford are worth bringing home.
amen

well I guess I should have known I didn't have a prayer going in, this was supposed to be just a quick stop in, check the place out, meet Rick and pick up a few scraps, as I am already sitting on more tumbling rough than I will use in this life. Figuring on almost $30 worth of gas just to get there and back, I was planning to spend only about $20, as my budget allowance for today was going to be only $50. I hadn't been there 10 minutes when he pulls out this big old hunk of Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper and tells me its mine for $30, so that went on plastic. For my cash allowance, actually a bit less- I got some tiger eye, a few pieces of rutilated Quartz and a nice hunck of India Bloodstone (which must still be in the car as it didn't make the photo shoot). Oh, and a nice small slab of picture jasper ready for the trim saw: That place is a real mecca for us rock fanatics though, worth the trip no matter where you are coming from. -Pete

Well, there's another one hooked. How did you get outta there with so little rock? Just kidding. That place is great, isn't it? I think the next time I go in there I'm gonna ask for a referral fee, maybe get some rock at a discount. Did ya get to go out back, or was it raining? Sometime in April we'll get a caravan going up there, help save some gas money.
