I’m trippin’ hard on this rock! Okay that sounds wrong, but what is this thing? We’ve had a few hard storms hit these last few days and it was uncovered at the park in one of the normally dry creeks that feeds the now full again lake. Dry Wet

I'm just taking a wild guess now, but maybe crinoids? I really don't know.

I'm just taking a wild guess now, but maybe crinoids? I really don't know. I see what you're seeing too. However, I'm going to throw a completely uneducated guess out here that it's a jasper with agate inclusions.

Crinoids are so cool though, it was the first thing that popped into my pea brain.

Yup, my wife and I were discussing that last night. I’m thinking to cut an end piece off when I finally get the saw out again.

Initially she was thinking some kind of brecciated rock. I wasn’t so sure about that. Hmmm, Jasper with agate inclusions…or how about agate with Jasper inclusions? I was thinking something along those lines but was having trouble articulating it last night. Definitely going to cut an end piece off it eventually.

For lack of a more scientific definition. Looks like a conglomerate of some type. Cut it open, would like to see what it reveals.

Actually, just the corner that sticks out at first. I have sat and stared at the rock way too long since I found it. I like patterns and texture and find it rather calming. You know…the more I look at it the more it looks like an agate with many hollows that had jasper develop in the those hollows afterwards.

I’ve always referred to it as conglomerate (combinations of jasper, agate, etc..) sometimes you cut them open and they have nice appearance. Other times, not so much. Only a cut will tell. Will be checking in to see what you find when you cut it.

That little red with yellow center reminds me of a rooster tail agate. Or Wingate Plume. Not sure where you are located. Yes, please cut a slice. If you could get it wet with water or even oil and photograph too. If you don’t have a saw, your local gem and mineral society club could have ome.

Well, the more Ive sat and looked at it, the less I want to cut it. I might try to tumble it. Never tried one quite this big, but I’ve done some fairly large rocks (2/3rds this size or so) in the rebel 17, so I think I could get this one to work. Or I might just leave it how it is because its an amazing looking rock.
