Well, I would be lying if I said that these turned out really well. Although the backlit pic looks cool. As much as this stuff looked quartzy/glassy, it didn't polish real well. Serves me right for not following Lapidary Rule #1. Finished on 14k and 50K wheels. Maybe MsAli was right about slag. First two are artificial light. The one on the top is the gray one, on the bottom is the darker black one. The black one polished better. Pretty easy to see from the light reflection. Backlit darker one. The gray one didn't have hardly any clear spots. Cross after tumbling at 220 grit (dry). Probably end of next week before I get it finished. It is more of the grayish material. I thought maybe they would look better in natural light. Nope. Darker one on right. Again easy to tell it polished better. Backlit darker one. Here is something that turned out better than I thought it would. Future Christmas tree ornament (wet after 220 tumbling). Oh yea, Lapidary Rule #1? Always, ALWAYS, when you have a rock that you don't know what it is, make sure you polish a small surface on it so you don't waste time slabing and cabbing something that won't polish well!

It could be the fact I'm on my phone in the glaring sun, but is the tree green? This and the translucent patterns in the other piece are interesting and cool and honestly, good job breaking Lapidary Rule #1. Worth it.
I do miss the chippy edges on the cross though. It had character and rugged charm.

The green is not the same is it? No. Sorry for the confussion. I just threw that in because it was in the same batch with the cross and I was frustrated how the black stuff turned out and liked how the green tree turned out. Don't know what the green stuff is either.

The light green did remind me of Unakite which makes sense because I found it in Michigan. I think it was on Lake Michigan.
