Anyone ever seen or heard of this type? I have some of the standard but just came across the “gel” type. Looking at photos online. Is this more rare, or is it just a gimmick to up the price?

Never heard of it and I'm a little suspicious. The two traditional sources here in Utah became unaccessible years ago and it's getting harder to come by.

Funny you should ask... I just cabbed one today that I think has some gel. YES, it is a thing and YES it is rare. Post some pics... I gotta see it. I love variscite way more than the cousin turquoise.

Quick phone pic. The darker areas look like gel. This is a deep stone.

Quick phone pic. The darker areas look like gel. This is a deep stone. I’ll cut a cab and post. Found the piece out in the pile. But that “look” as in your pic, is what I’m talking about. It’s definitely different from the muted color I’m use to seeing. For lack of better words

For lack of better words If it is gel (and I'm not certain mine is, although it is Lucin) it will have a really deep look in the darker greens.

I got these about 20 years ago at an estate sale, they were labeled as Lucine, not sure if that is correct. But, there is gel to them. Niiiice!

Mine has transparency through it as well. And it’s a darker green like yours. Just thought it was kinda interesting when I came across it. Because I could tell it was lucine. Just haven’t seen it like that before.

I've got some of that around here somewhere, I'll have to dig it out now. Gel sounds to me like another new gimmicky word to drive the cost up - I've never heard that until right now. I always just described it literally as 'translucent areas'
