I wonder if it's agatized petrified wood?

I was thinking a plume with fortification, but not sure of a name or location.

Still looking for an ID on this one please. Thanks! Sorry we can't help pin it down Mike. I've looked at it a half dozen times and I'm no closer. It's one of those rocks that could literally be from any number of places in the west or maybe even more likely Mexico. I do know it's a beautiful cab though

Just curiosity. Thank you and thanks for the compliment!

I believe you're correct- at least in my unprofessional opinion! 🙂

I believe you're correct- at least in my unprofessional opinion! 🙂 I dunno… I was looking at the moss, and it’s not your “typical” uniform pattern. Almost has a stick appearance to some of them. That lead me down the path of where I googled Turkish moss agate and it lead me to that. That’s the closest thing I could find that resembles your cab. Where did you get the material from?

I did see some other slightly different colorations under Turkish moss agate that had that blotchy moss pattern, and that makes me think this is just some variation of it. Obviously I can’t prove that. However you could possibly assume and just say that’s what it is.

The plausibility of that is very strong. 😁 Thanks!

miket It looks familiar and I agree with Tommy that it's probably a West Texas/Northern Mexico agate. I have similar agates from the area collected years ago. That moss-ish with the banded and small crystal vugs seems to occur through-out that region. Maybe even Needle Peak which always had a lot of Jumbled agate types all in the same rock. There are a couple of larger pieces in my boneyard that I need to get on the saw and get cut. They are in the queue!! Unfortunately more and more pieces are getting to where I require assistance to place these pieces on the 24 inch saw. Good problem to have I suppose. Henry

I am doubting Turkish. The color just seems wrong.
My first instinct was Cathedral agate. But, without seeing the slab, I just don't know.

Just at first glance, it reminded me of some of the river "gravel" I've received and cut from South Texas...like right next to Mexico part of Texas! I've seen a lot of that color of moss...and the inclusion of the small fortification areas seem to be prevalent in that material as well.
