Nice ! I purchased a "Mexican Flame Agate" slab a while ago & wondered why it was called that.
Now I know (mine didn't have those nice flames) - thanks for showing it.

Could anyone give more specific info on what makes a “good” flame agate? There’s some roughs in the collection I inherited but I don’t know how to judge them.

Ok, I can’t think of any way to argue against that since I have been falling in love with random rocks that I dig out of my garden! On the other hand, the “hobby shop” I inherited has far more rough than I am likely to use myself so would like to set aside the “best” pieces for future me to slab and sell. My pieces are my first time seeing flame agate so they blew my mind when I washed them off, but they don’t have nearly as much going on as those pictures! Is flames the main thing? Or colors? Number of bands???

I think these will actually look nice when slabbed. These flame agates look better in the form of thin slabs rather than a bulky piece, because with thin slabs you see the flames more clearly. I also feel they deserver higher resolution pictures...

Thanks for the advice! Btw, how thin is “thin”?

3/16" is on the thin side, while 1/4" is considered "standard".

I love to cut up slabs and make cabs but I think that one would look stunning polished and sitting on your display shelf. It would look good sitting on my shelf too! Beautiful slab.

I haven’t figured out my display shelf yet! I had a plan but my husband wants the fiesta ware on display instead… he doesn’t have any interest in rocks at ALL so my dreams of scattering them all over the house have been dashed. 🤣

Put them in there. Pretty sure it was rockbrain I saw that did similar. Looks nice
