rockjunquie - you're rivaling realrockhound for speed ID's. You two should be in a contest! Thanks for the compliments lady! I've got other rhodochrosite that looks like pink eyes and some that are lacy looking, I like this bacon the best though. The eyes are more valuable- depending on the quality. They are bull's eye stalagmite or stalactite, I can never remember which. You just need to remember the little girl standing in an ants nest. When the mites go up, the tights go down.

Starguy - LOL That's the first time I've heard that one, now I'll never forget it. rmf - Thanks for the ID's - On that Morrisonite. Others think it is Blue Mountain Jasper. Is there an easy way to spot the difference? Does Morrisonite get Orby like that? I'm asking becuase husband called this Morrisonite as well, I called it Blue Mountain, so I posted it as unknown. I wasn't trying to start a domestic squabble, I figured someone would know!

Some spectacular slabs there. Some of those would make nice specimen slabs although I was laying out shapes on them in my head!

How in the name of all things Geological can you folks remember all these names?!? Is there an encyclopedia somewhere? I'm in complete awe of some folks' recognition abilities.

Very nice, lots of wonderful dendrites in that bunch. Thanks for sharing.

rockbrain - It's hard to tell which ones to cut up, but I'm beginning to wonder if the lack of template markings on some of them are an indication! Thanks for looking! 1dave - Thank you! More to come, I promise. It's not a chore in any way to post photos of them, I'm already doing it anyway so I can compare them to photos online. The hardest part is picking out which to share! I'm so new at this, I keep saying, "Wow!" at nearly everything now. rocknrob - It' mind blowing, right? It's crazy when someone pops in with a 2 second ID on something that I've already put hours into and gotten nowhere! I keep talking about that agate index, it's the closest thing to an encyclopedia I have found online. This is another reason why I keep posting pictures of these not so commonly known cool slabs - looking for photos to ID my piece is how I found here. Someone else out there might be trying to ID something and find it this way! dshanpnw - Thank you! Dendrites are fun, like little trees in the scene.

I'm voting on Blue Mountain for Unknown #4.
The petrified wood is definitely Arizona Rainbow Wood.
The Morrisonite/Carrasite slab is would say is Carrasite just because of the pattern and coloring. They are kissing cousins geographically, though.
You probably answered this question while I was missing and I'm too lazy to go back and read. Where did you get all these beauties from? BTW, some of the stuff you have on this thread is high dollar material. Think twice before you cut those up. They may be worth a heck of a lot more left as is.

hummingbirdstones - I have answered that before, happy to tell it again. I was "gifted" a collection by a couple in their 90's as a thank you for having done work for them for years. I'll also add this info, which I haven't before just to keep it fresh and interesting for those who may have read it already... They originally tried to donate it to a University and were told that the department didn't want the materials because they already had what they needed! That still blows my mind! So here I am, trying figure out which ones not to cut, and very grateful I have people like you helping out a dum-dum like me. (If you haven't read enough to know that yet, stick around. You'll soon join the others who are waving at me kindly with a sympathetic smile, as I bravely get on the short bus and ride off into the sunset.)

IMHO the University's loss and your gain. You have some really nice stuff and it was very nice of those folks to gift you their collection. I have also been the recipient of collections from older club members that we helped a lot over the years. You are not a dum-dum, dum-dum, but you are pretty funny. You're actually pretty smart getting help with that and nobody on this board minds helping out a member with identification. None of us knows everything and we still need help on occasion on ones we are stumped on.

I would not base my life on the ID from a pic there are too many times that one rock looks like another since all the locations have a range from here to there so to speak, some are bound to overlap. Just my thoughts.

LOL

rmf - I promise all guesses are accepted, even appreciated. Makes me feel a lot more human when I keep swinging and missing. Earlier today I was blown away by a fossil that turned out to be.... not a fossil. stardiamond - thanks for the confirmation. Appreciated! hummingbirdstones - Thanks for saying that. I need a few head pats and belly rubs sometimes.
