That’s a impressive head scratcher.
Got to admit no clue but will take a look and see if I can find it.

You mean metallic not chatoyant, correct? I don't see the chatoyancy. I haven't a clue as to what this is. Everything that I think it could be- it isn't.

I think I meant that, yeah. I thought chatoyant meant it caught a shine....I'm getting on the short bus and going home. (Short bus may just be a Chicago term)

Oooo! If you noticed I haven't commented on too many of your slabs because I am not that familiar with most of them, especially stuff from out west. Here is an outside the box guess for this one. I didn't see the chattoyancy either. This remimds me of a material named Mohawkite from the copper country in the upper peninsula of Michigan (Mohawk Mine). Search for this on the internet. You will find a lot of pictures that are mostly metal. However, there are some that are more quartz with a little bit of metal. Is the white material quartz? In the sample I have (which I will post a picture of later), you can see some of the same "tarnished" or copper looking material that you see in fourth photo (although maybe that was just the angle?). I am not sure about being associated with the jasper (probably search for that on the internet too).

Not metallic at all, but a phenomenon of light play.

Look up Josephine's Crown, too.
I'll post some pix. I think it's Josephine's Crown. Rare and pretty valuable.

rockjunquie - That does look very much like it, though I can't find a slab of it to compare to. chris1956 - I noticed you diligently liking and chiming in, thank you so very much. Is the white part a quartz? You've read my posts, you know who you're asking??? I have no clue! LOL The red brown part is red brown, not an angle. I now realize the photo I posted of the entire specimen is not the greatest, I can provide more photos if you would like. I was trying so hard to capture that metallic (not chatoyant) part that I neglected the sample as a whole! Anyway, thank you for all you've helped out thus far, it always makes me happy when you have something to say. I also think it looks like that Mohawkite you posted. So I'm teetering between the two, but so happy I have solid leads to thoroughly follow now. dreamrocks - I think so too!

I didn’t see that you said gold (pyrite) in it. From everything that you have shown us it wouldn’t surprise me in the least bit if it was Gold! From Alaska for some reason Alaska
Easy test take a needle and try to push it in the gold and if it leaves a hole from the needle it’s gold.
If it flakes, pops off or chips it’s mica and pyrite will be to hard to push the needle into it.
Heads up use a thimble or get a good hold with a pair of pliers.
You’ll thank me later when you don’t push the needle into your fingers
Good luck Goldie Lox

dreamrocks - I put a needle to it, it slid across it so I believe pyrite. rockjunquie and chris1956 - I didn't notice that the piece had an old coating on the surface that yellowed, it was not polished as I originally though. I am including a photo of the reverse side (untreated side) Maybe this will help solve the mystery.

It's either Josephine's Crown or Mohawkite. I'm leaning on Josephine's Crown.

Don't know. rockjunquie has more experience than I do. On your latest photo (top one) the metal looks more like pyrite. Is that the true color or is it more of a silver color? The specimen I have is very silverish but you can see what looks like native copper that shows through the clear quartz pockets. The specimen I have had a clear coating put on it. I have another section of it in the basement somewhere that isn't coated. If I recall, I think it kind of tarnished on the silver part (I will try to find that tomorrow and see what it looks like). Of course, I only have the opinion of one person in the mining department at Michigan Technological University (40 years ago) that my specimen is in fact Mohawkite (we thought it was silver when I found it). Maybe my specimen really is silver? When I look at online pictures of Mohawkite, a lot of them have that pyrite look to them and pyrite can be found in Mohawkite but that could be other minerals that give it that color. Also, keep in mind that Mohawkite does contain arsenic. Holly crap! Take a look at this picture below that I found on the internet. Look familiar? Although who knows if they got it right. www.reddit.com/r/Keweenawrockhounds/comments/k7a21p/500_gram_piece_of_mohawkite_i_got_for_a_steal_at/
