Good to hear. I also thought your other one might have had symptoms of overheating. You might want to keep that in mind. My TV5 gets pretty warm but I'm running it in the cool barn. What would be the "symptoms of overheating" and what would cause the machine to overheat? What do I need to watch for ? The unit is on the cement floor in the basement and there is a fan running there 24/7 in the summer to combat humidity. Sorry I didn't get back sooner but chaosdsm covered it well. That it started and ran again for awhile before dying again is a possible symptom of overheating. May not have been the issue, I don't know. But it's worth considering so you don't run into the same issue later. |

I have always weighed the load and made sure that it was right around the #8 pound mark and rocks have always been watched to make sure they are moving and if one seemed to be blocking anyone, out it came. One advantage of the units with the not-clear top is that one cannot obsess that things "don't look quite right" when one really has no firm notion of what "right" looks like. I am certain that temperature of the environment was not a factor. All for this leads to "unit failure of unknown origin." BUT I still worry that it might happen again. |

At least 10% of most products will simply stop working long before they "should", and not due to anything that the user did. I have a friend at work who got a 2023 truck in Dec 2022, after putting less than 5,000 miles on it, it left him stranded on a 200 mile road trip. Long story short, the dealer swapped his out for a different truck. Personally, I had a 2001 Hyundai Accent, treated it well, regular service, just over 120,000 miles, but after 11 years it just stopped working. Dealer and alternate shop couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. I know people with same year & model that are still running fine, one with almost 300,000 miles. And don't even get me started on computer parts & electronics......... Of interest to me is that your tumbler is made by Lyman.... I would like to take it apart & see exactly where the problem lies &/or swap the motor for a concrete vibrator motor, but the darned thing is epoxied together  |

I would like to take it apart & see exactly where the problem lies &/or swap the motor for a concrete vibrator motor, but the darned thing is epoxied together Yah ... have noticed that the unit seems to very resistant to user repair or even exploration. As for things "getting wet",I have noticed when doing a very wet borax'n'dawn wash between stages that there is mud around the spindle under the bowl ... nothing major and I have assumed that the buck stops there as there is no sign of leakage UNDER the machine itself. It only happens when there is enough water to be thrown around and splashing on the lid and apparently down the (now stainless) spindle despite the rubber gasket on the washer. I have kept a close eye on this latest run and have not noticed what could be called "heat" ... a bit of warmness which seems normal with 24/7 usage (with occasional stops for a spray to keep the slurry happy). How did your motor get wet ? <--- not the sort of question one asks a total stranger everyday, eh ?  and yah ...lemons as far as vehicles and equipment ... been there done that and usually just after the warranty runs out or the return window expires. |

I'm new to rock tumbling myself, but not tools. I've smoked some electric motors in my time, lol. It may have just died so I wouldn't worry too much unless it happens again. Feeling the heat from my tv5, I'd be inclined to point a fan directly on it and will next summer (I've only ran two batches) but it's in cold weather now and freezing will be my hurdle soon.  |
