This to me looks like an opalised carrisite? An opalized something? A garden variety green rock? Anyone wan't to try figuring this one?

It’s interesting what kind of details don’t photograph well (or at least show the same on different screens). You mentioned opalized but I would have guessed it is chalcedony based off how the pic looks to me. Looks more translucent than opal.. doesn’t have the right pattern but my brain went right to “huh, looks like onyx”.

Well, it's not garden variety. It's pretty, but I have no clue.

I would call that Cherry Creek "jasper" by the pattern and even the colors a bit, but I don't think it is.

I’m gonna go with morrisonite. Google “green morrisonite jasper” and get back to me.

realrockhound - that was my first guess, but he has a lot more Carrasite than morrisonite so I figured it might be carrisite instead. rockjunquie - it does have the look of the cherry creek, but that stuff doesn't have the same feel as this one. Cherry creek has the pattern and color but not the feel (to the touch) of jasper, so I can see why that was your first thought. You'd have to touch it to know its not the same I think on that one. cabby - hang in there, I feel ya! ThomasT - Thanks Thomas! I do have a never ending plethora of lithic beauty - We're just getting warmed up here. The good stuff is still at the collectors home

Its all from damn near the same area.

realrockhound - I like it being morrisonite. I was just saying I wanted to call it that but I played it safe when I made my guess You know the material way more than I do. I'm calling it Morrisonite.
