Something I do which is a bit peculiar, but kind of fun, is everyone on RTH that I send rocks to I "follow" them. Don't know why I do it but it's become a tradition for me. I double box large flat rate boxes, use fiber tape. Add 50to 68 lbs of rock in Nevada and mail them home to Alaska. 26 boxes mailed, no tears, busts or broken rocks... and I don't use padding for random rough agate etc, just pack tight

I know this was said already but it is worth saying again...if you place the rocks in a plastic bag (or double bags) it will help alot.
The last box I got was basically destroyed even though it had tons of tape. The heavy duty plastic bag the guy put everything in kept everything from falling out!
The double box idea is a good one too but I feel like if the box get dropped to the point that one box breaks then the other might too. The plastic bag held all the little chips and scraps in place so nicely!!

Boxes turn into bowling balls when they go to Alaska if, they survive good as they did, good for the rest of the US lol The double box idea is a good one too but I feel like if the box get dropped to the point that one box breaks then the other might too. Can you ship a slab in a flat rate envelope? You could, but it might snap in half unless you sandwich it between boards or something rigid. I'm convinced the postal service has contests to see much they can batter packages.

Hmm, maybe just some card board?
Oooh, what if I put some 30-60 in there and send it to myself, will it come back polished???
