Thunderegg is Richardsons I give! Which bed is it? To me the matrix has that greenish look that the plume and moss bed do, but can’t figure out what color/pattern that might be called. Looks like tubes?

Looks like tubes? I believe he meant the Richardson's Rock Ranch in Oregon - On their website they give an explanation of how they were formed. Is that what you meant? If not, whoops! jasoninsd and hummingbirdstones - Thank you for that info on the tiffany stone, I mean it. I'm getting better at ID's but still lack the knowledge when it comes to which is a good specimen vs bad specimen. I've spent hours looking online at dino turds trying to count the corn in it to try and figure out what makes poop pretty to other people. Any time anyone comes in and saves me the trouble by pointing out the fine pieces, I breath a big sigh of relief. I was literally debating creating a post of just rocky butte jasper to figure out which ones were good and which ones were crap. I just don't know what people consider good yet. A lot of time I'll think, "ohh, that's awesome" and find out its "meh" to rock peoples. So thank you both, for real!

tribeunited Richardson’s rock ranch has multiple thunder egg beds. I know of plume, moss, opal, old priday, red bed, blue bed… am sure there are some I don’t know about! Each bed has a distinct color/pattern that it’s named after.

It's easy to generalize what's most desirable, but in the end, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
For instance, I didn't like either of those tiffany stones, but some people will.
I think looking at a few cabber's sites like this one and what they have chosen to cab from a given material would help. Look at your slabs with a cabbing eye. Maybe print out the templates found here and use them to see if your slab has some potential.
Usually, it's not so much the material as it is the material's potential.

jasoninsd - I'm glad I amused you. I was sort of serious lol. Ok, maybe I didn't count them but I really did spend a lot of time looking at the coprolite thread on this forum. Literally hundreds of posts and bajillions of poops and comments and I'm still without a clue. I am not a connoisseur of fine turds yet, I guess a girl can dream? (Should she?) Life goals. rockjunquie - As always, your response was super helpful. I have templates and hadn't considered that idea, so I will try it! I'll also check out that website, thank you for providing it. I can't wait to dive into it... I love his name though, Sam Silverhawk. What a cool name.

Whenever I'm pondering picking up a new material, I do a Google search for "_________ cabochon" to see what kind of potential the material has for cabbing. More often than not, something from Sam shows up...and I know where the actual bar is set for me!
