Ok... what is this stuff. Now that its a bit cooler, I was outback in the field running the dogs. There is a pile of this stuff laying along the fence but never thought much of it until tonight when I saw this vibrant green peeking out. Anyone know what it is? first pic is showing some agate and druzy. vegasjames since you're the copper complex guru. Assuming thats what this is

It’s soft. I’m thinking chrysocolla, but I suck on id’s with materials outside of your typical agates and jaspers. Especially in the rough

Harder to tell whwn wet than dry, but looks mainly like malachite and azurite, with some "silicated chrysocolla" (actually chalcedony stained by copper salts).

But I’m far from and expert on these types of things. I’ll hopefully throw it on the saw this weekend and post pics.

Looks like Chrysocolla to me. Let it dry out good if it is chrysocolla a lot of times if the silica content is low it is hydroscopic so you can touch your tonque on it and it will stick. This does not work for all chrysocolla, just the stuff with less silica.

I'm thinking Chrysocolla in Malachite too.

Depending on when I cut and what it turns out being. Is it fairly common material? Easy/cheap to acquire? If it’s actually worth a good chunk of change, then I want to go pick all of it up and move it inside somewhere

realrockhound - I'm starting to think oregon is the mecca of rock treasures....especially in your yard! Between the 10 ton pile of rare fine jaspers by the shed, the scraps you chuck at tweekers, the petrified herringbone you find chasing mice, and now the chrysocolla you find just sitting by the fence..... I think your yard is a mecca for treasure! No wonder you have ar-15's for the trick or treaters! Gotta protect that property.

realrockhound I would pick it all up and put it some place, so it's not lost. You probably have something good there. Your grandfather must have thought so or he wouldn't have picked it up.

I just saw post with the bucket of leaverite.... gotta add that to the growing list...
Now I think those tours you mentioned are going to be really easy. Just set us loose in your back yard and sit on the back porch with a 40. Put tom tom and randy near the good stuff to growl at anyone getting out of line. I think it could be entertaining. Wait, we just established its all good stuff.... nevermind

I think your yard is a mecca for treasure! No wonder you have ar-15's for the trick or treaters! Gotta protect that property. I got Tomtom and Randy for protecting the rocks. Anyone who comes onto the property will announced is in for a real bad day. Funny story, before I got the new pup, my dad and the pastor of his church showed up unannounced to use the drill press in my garage. I was down in the lower field. Randy takes off like a rocket so I follow. I hear a literal scream and all I can see over the second fence and rock piles is randys ears and tail circling some guy like a shark haha. Then I hear my dads voice saying what’s going on. I get up there and see who it was and called him off. The pastor is like that’s a big dog. I tell Randy good boy, and say if he’s attacking church members then I’ve trained him well 😂. He says I ain’t a church member I’m the pastor, so I reply even better 😂. For a little context, I’ve have some personal issues with that guy and a few of their members due to disrespect towards me.
