A lot of those look like Noriega mine agates. I would call 3 and 6 “Rosetta lace”.
Hrm. Now I am confused. I think Rosetta lace might be one of the things that the name shifted to something else. The old Rosetta looks different from a lot of the Google results listed as Rosetta. The original Rosetta seems to be less defined, while a lot of listings for Rosetta now are just vibrant Noriega/laguna that are more broken up/chaotic of patterns but still fairly well defined.

I've been going crazy trying to sort out my crazy lace. I've got two bins full of it right now. I didn't name them in the thread because I'm still trying to nail down the names! I'll mark slabs 3 and 6 in my notes as a possible Rosetta. (I still have about 50 bins at his house I haven't even opened, but today I finished going through everything we brought home. Progress!) It's super hard to find good clear images online of the different styles of crazy lace. So far I've found laguna, Quetzalcoatl Lace, Noriega, Cactus, Fine Line/Victor, Dogtooth, Flor De Duranzo (Flower of Peach or Flowering Peach), Sangria, and Icicle Lace. Dude loooved his crazy lace. Do you have Rosetta or Noriega at home that you are comparing it to? If so can I see some to compare to? What I have for Rosetta Crazy Lace looks like this. I don't know if that matches what google has or matches old material. From what I understand, Rosetta Crazy Lace has 2 varieties. There is a Rosetta Crazy Lace agate, and then this - Rosetta Crazy Lace Stone. People sometimes call this a dolomite but I've read that isn't accurate.

I ran across this earlier today lapidaryslab.com/sample-of-four-mexican-lace-agates/ I knew that most crazy lace was from the same area but didn’t know it’s the same claim. Also ran across something else earlier (can’t remember where) that said that Rosetta crazy lace is found 50 meters away from laguna lace, different section of the vein. Since it’s all the Noriega mine claim i think that means Rosetta lace, laguna lace, and flower of peach are all sub types of Noriega. None of my lace agates were previously marked but my “crazy” laces are definitely Noriega/laguna/peach types, and have some laces that are obviously different (blue lace, suspected Missouri, etc). Only have 2 laces that I don’t at least have a good idea of the source: the so called nodular bubble lace, and the weird one with the powdery yellow matrix.

I dont know how you or anyone else is able to ID anything from rough, it's beyond my ability! I came up on a few more varieties of Crazy Lace - Rincon Crazy lace and Ice Candle Lace. I feel like these names are getting ridiculous. There needs to be a reference book that shows the photos and points out the differences!

A lot of my rough either has a cut face, or I trim a bit off myself to check the pattern. Some things show enough detail on a broken face without needing to cut, though. Wish I was better at id! Btw, I have a new book on the way that will hopefully help with old stock… ordered a copy of “the agates of north America” that was advertised in the vintage magazines 😆 hoping it helps me narrow down some of the agates I have.

Please let me know if you find any new information! Today I found another Lace - "Kailey Agate." Here's a photo for reference...

I’m REALLY curious about that last one! The colors are very “laguna” but I’m not seeing any lacey in the photos. Lots of botryoidal fortification… would LOVE to see inside that one!

realrockhound - I agree on that Kailey looking like a tube - here's up close - it's very intricate cabby - I have no idea either, but the colors are amazing! I am not cutting this yet - I'll practice cutting at some point on some sh*tstones first before I start trying to cut up the nicer ones. I tried google image search on that bubbly wonder - no luck.

Update - That "Kaity" Agate was actually "Kailey Agate, or Kaleyite" An agate discovered by the same person who discovered "Jessite." It is from Mexico, and does sometimes resemble a crazy lace. I'm sure someone else knows a lot more about this than I do! I edited the posts with the pictures to have the correct name, just in case someone finds this through a google search - I wanted it to be correctly ID'd. That is all!

Oh one more thing - since you're good at the rough stuff - any clue on this one??? Maybe laguna? Lol, thats a tough one. maybe. But that one is beautiful rough. If you never cut it, that would be A-OK. Its almost like a mini wonderland

Charity, If you ever get bored, take a look back in the archives for the "Cab that Slab" contests. That's all I could think of looking at those "active" slabs. They're all gorgeous!!

Ps. I still can't quite figure out the Pedro Plume I was just being dumb. Pedro plume just rolls off the tongue nicely. But I was referring to the pieces that have the plume looking inclusions in them. The Juanita name though… I hope you all got the joke. Gave me quite the chuckle 😂 Wait until some finds the long lost literary lace agates in central nevada. 😜
