Man, this thread has gotten FUN! At first I was just looking forward to seeing interesting ways to use cheaper materials, but the discussion is even better dshanpnw your “Carey plume incident” beats mine so the torch is now yours 🤣

With the amount of rock ID threads that tribeunited has posted at this point, I’m disappointed in y’all on not being able to identify your materials 😂

In my short tenure on this board and after what I've seen him submit, this is what I imagine the "junk pile" at realrockhound 's place looks like.

The theme this month is definitely a fun one. I think my new entry meets the criteria of being low budget. It is petrified wood allegedly from Horse Creek Idaho or Saddle Mountain Montana. It was purchased for less then $3, not self collected. Good luck everyone. Preform #1 Preform on the dop Front view Side view Thanks for looking

I was going to do a lightning stone but since RockNerds picked that before I did I will come up with something else. Can't have two lightning stones, it woud be too much electricity. But here is what I had done. Found in southwest Michigan in July.

If nothing else, realrockhound sent me some Bat Cave Japer. I'm sure that will qualify as low cost common material.

D cabbed a honduran opal and said, "This will qualify, right?" I had to splain it to him gently.... dshanpnw - I think the pet wood turned out even better than the first one! Nice! chris1956 - The lightning cab turned out great! Such a nice shine. realrockhound - Should they just close the ID section because we covered it all???

We have a couple of dressers temporarily where I normally do my lapidary so I can't fire up the trim saw without getting the nice furniture wet. So I used the dremel with a diamond wheel to rough cut some Oolite. I couldn't get behind sodalite this time, it wasn't giving me any inspiration at the moment. Hoping this looks good for the contest... Oolite is ok for cheapo stuff right?
