whalecottagedesigns I think Glenn is right about the power setting maybe not being current, it may be more like what percentage of the time it is pulsed on vs off, AKA duty cycle. I have not studied it out at all, but the frequent use of the word pulse describing these machines leads me to believe it may gather power in capacitors, then release it in pulses to do the work. It that case wattage may only be a measure of how fast it does the job. Painters tape is supposed to work well for glass, and prevent chipping at the edges of the etch. I'm curious to see how this works out for you, I've fou d nothing needed with glass for mine at least, everything sharp. Just don't try to engrave malachite, you will just burn through it completely lol. Which reminds me I want to find an unusable scrap to try and burn out a design lol

And while I am waiting with bated breath for the machine, I have been watching videos about it! More than one person has had a go at trying to etch bare metals, including a pair of scissors, a piece of silver and a stainless steel knife, and none of those worked. However, there is apparently some sort of chemical spray, forget the name now, with which you can cover the metal in three spray layers, which may work. However, painted or even electroplated metal does seem to etch ok. Here it is the electroplating and the paint obviously which etches.
But it certainly does work on glass. Still holding thumbs! :-)
