Shorter! But don't worry, that's good! ;D We planned a three days trip for collecting opalized wood. But after a few hours of search the car was full of luggages and mostly pet wood: ![](http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s308/adrian65prd/P7210191.jpg) That's the car fully loaded. Three of us had to go in that car, and the fourth "passenger" is sitting in the back of the driver. You can notice another one is laying on the feet's place of the front seat. Now some details: We (four enthusiastic rockhounds) gathered in the rockhounding area and started to search for opalized pet wood. It's a wood with very nice colors (all sorts of brown, orange and yellow) but poor wooden structure excepting the bark. We looked mostly on the hills, right nearby the plantations of potatoes and other vegetables. ![](http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s308/adrian65prd/P7210197.jpg) ![](http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s308/adrian65prd/P7210144.jpg) The peasants get rid of the rocks and make some small piles, where pet wood can be found. We found some pet wood there, mostly small chunks but some of them big enough, about 6...8 inches length. Not those chunks had shortened our trip, but the big ones that my friend (first) and me (second) have found. That's his found (amazing, two of our group walked near it but he - the third one - saw it): ![](http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s308/adrian65prd/P7210151.jpg) And the "fever" hit all of us (don't worry, his hand is still in one piece): ![](http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s308/adrian65prd/P7210153.jpg) ![](http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s308/adrian65prd/P7210158.jpg) One more little effort... ![](http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s308/adrian65prd/P7210160.jpg) ... and it's out! Hooray!!! ![](http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s308/adrian65prd/P7210163.jpg) That's the victorious team... ![](http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s308/adrian65prd/P7210165.jpg) ... and the VERY happy owner (don't worry, he recovered ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) ): ![](http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s308/adrian65prd/P7210166.jpg) Then we continued our search on another hill ![](http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s308/adrian65prd/P7210171.jpg) AND IT WAS MY TURN TO MAKE A BIG FOUND ;D ;D ;D ![](http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s308/adrian65prd/P7210178.jpg) Starting to dig, it became bigger and bigger ![](http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s308/adrian65prd/P7210182.jpg) and a very nice big log came out! ![](http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s308/adrian65prd/P7210184.jpg) First, I tried to roll it downhill by foot, but it was quite difficult: ![](http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s308/adrian65prd/P7210186.jpg) And then I made a try, putting the log into my sack and carrying it as you see. It didn't break (and so did I ![:))](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cheesy.png) . I was lucky the car was pretty close. ![](http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s308/adrian65prd/P7210188.jpg) And finally, a group photo of the most beautiful captures we did and some objects for size comparing ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) ![](http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s308/adrian65prd/P7210215.jpg) Thanks for looking, Adrian

Wow! Once again, amazing pictures, and more amazing finds! You're going to have to tell the local people you are interested in pet wood, maybe they will leave you special piles of rocks while they are cleaning their fields.

Wow! Those are some big pieces. I have a feeling that sometime in the near future you will be posting a picture of a wooden tree that you will probably find. Great going Adrian, and friends.

Wow! What fantastic finds. You and your friends look like you had a wonderful day hunting. You live in such a beautiful area. It looks really peaceful and serene there. Wish I had somewhere like that to hunt. But alas, no. I'll just have to live through your wonderful pics.

Great trip Adrian! In all of your posts, you make us feel like we are right there beside you, anticipating what is to come as we scroll down the page of pictures! It looks like you had your work cut out for you - digging and hauling your prizes down the hill. You were rewarded with some awesome material! Great finds!!

Thanks everyone, I'm glad you enjoyed the pics.
Stonewizard, maybe you'll be a little disapointed but I don't intend to cut it or turn it into small pieces. As I told you, most of that sort of pet wood keeps few or no details of the interior wooden structure. The most interesting part is the exterior, the bark.
Karen, the locals don't know that rock is pet wood. For them it's just a weird rock and we better let it that way, or they could start to collect it and sell it to the rockhounds. I have this experience.
Condor, I hope that you, who know the answeres to all the questions, have a correct vision about me finding a tree.
Thanks again everyone,
Adrian

Wow Adrian! Nice trip and that wood is Beautiful! Way to go!
"Stonewizard, maybe you'll be a little disapointed but I don't intend to cut it or turn it into small pieces" I don't see how anyone could break a beautiful log like that up into small pieces. Boggles my mind.

That is some big wood. Great finds; great pics. I am thinking drill a hole and use it for the base of a lamp or turn it into a fountain. Or put it on the porch; that would be cool too.

Adrian,
Thanks for letting us tag along. Not only did you find some great stuff, but you got to do it with friends and that should make it all the more memorable. Looks like it was a great day.
By the way, how about a shot of your growing pet wood collection?

i think Tami meant with the car so loaded, did you scrape the bottom of it as you went over any bumps in the road. those are HUGE pieces! i can't imagine all of your friends AND all that wood plus gear in that little teeny car!
great photos! i don't know why Romainia seems so exotic, probably all those vampire movies we here in the states grew up watching. but lovely scenery, love the flowers and the villages in the distance.
super story of your most excellent finds!

Nice chunks of wood you pulled out of there Adrian. Looks like the stuff is all in that area, do others collect it?
