I worked at a chicken place and had to deal with bosses who thought it was funny to take their dirty fingers and stick them in our ears (what is this called - wet noodle or something like that) I had to content with a boss who would help me out with carrying stuff but then spill it and then ask me to clean it up!
Now years later I deal with people complaining all day about one thing or another (I work in finance and shouldn't have to deal with this) my next door cubicle neighbor talks incredibly loud yet yells at me to turn down my radio (which I can barely hear as it is - and no I'm not deaf!)
I get home and have to deal with a 7 y/o boy who gets into trouble all the time and likes to double check when I tell him not to touch stuff cuz it'll burn you (yeah he's been burned before) or don't touch the razor cuz it'll cut you (checked that one out twice already and cut himself twice too - still hasn't learned that lesson yet)
Hubby likes to start project but hates finishing them - so I have to help him with the actual project against my will (there are some "manly jobs" after all for him to do) and I have to finish them because he's not up to finishing them himself (it's too hard)
My almost 12 y/o daughter is quickly becoming a young woman before my eyes and I'm feeling older by the minute looking at her and it's killing me that she's growing up so fast.
Dean Cain has not yet decided to visit my house and feed me grapes as he massages my sore shoulders while I cab using my New Titan cabber (I haven't gotten THAT either) nor has he carried me away for a weekend frollick - *I bet HE finishes what he starts*
Although all this may not be a very miserable story compared to others, my daughter has drooled over that piece of BO when you first posted it in the cabbing section and I'd like to give it to her as a way of keeping her a baby and having her make a promise to me to never grow up.

Wow Tony that is a wonderful prize. I'm sure I don't qualify as I only work 40 hours a week and have had the same job for 24 years but I gotta giver a go for that BO.
What takes up a huge amount of my time is college. At the ripe young age of 39 years old I decided to go to college to get a bachelors degree in civil engineering. So for the last 6 years I have made the 1 hour drive into Philadelphia to to attend college 2 nights a week. I miss seeing my family on those nights. Almost as bad as being away 2 nights a week is the homework. I spend between 10 and 12 hours on that each week. This means that on the nights I don't go to college, I spend the time after my daughter goes to sleep ignoring my wife and doing homework. Weekends are just as bad as I usually spend about 6 hours every Sunday doing homework.
The good news is I should graduate sometime around 2010. Maybe then I will be able to remember what my wife looks like. ;D

Happy Labor Day to all!
I'm thankful to every person that put themselves second in order to earn a better life for their family. I'm grateful to all men, women and teenagers for the hard work both manually and mentally that makes this nation great. I'm thankful for every difficult job I've ever had (although I may have complained at the time) that has taught me perseverance, dedication and the value of a job well done. My friends will tell you I can work any 2 of them under the table but I'm learning that is not as important as taking the time to shake the hand of the man working beside you, to look him in the eye and say thanks. I've learned that it is not always about accomplishing the job (although that is important) it is more about enjoying the work, enjoying the moment and the fact that I am blessed to be physically and mentally able to work no matter the job. I also must remember I never work alone, someone some where is doing something to help me, most usually my wife!. I'm thankful to work, live, love and worship in the greatest and most blessed country in the world and we take a day to say thanks. john

Tony, --- guess my name should of been "Bubba" or something close -- forgot to get a job that needed "brains" -- instead I went to construction where I poured concrete for 34+ years --- kinda like Cpdad --I've poured footings oustside with the snow blowing so hard that you couldn't see 20' in back of you , also poured in the summer when it was so hot it would try to set up coming down the chute off the truck -- during the winters we did receive a break -- if it got to -10 we would call it a day ! ;D--- I've been on commerical jobs where if you fell over, the rest would just look at you and say " he must of had a bad night " and step over you and keep going some of the bigger floors would take until 3 a.m. to finish, then be back at 6 to start the next floor pour of 150-200 yards ,wall forms that had a steel frame and weighed 75# each ( 2'x8')---and if you didn't frame 150' (both sides)in a day by yourself then you didn't "do anything!!"--- have poured house basements by myself (little younger ;D) , one was almost 1800 sq/ ft. -- also did prob 200 swimming pools --- most had concrete bottoms ,pour the concrete as stiff as possible then start shoveling to form the sides ( some having a 9' deep bowl), only to have it slide down --- get to start all over then !! , and alot of house work -- driveways, basements, patios , walks , etc. ---- what made me finally retire was when I went to this one little town to replace city sidewalks that I had poured 30 years earlier !! ;D --- I knew then that I had been doing this for toooooooooooooo long!! -------- A cubic yard of concrete weighs in at @ 2700# -- a truck will haul 7-8 yards a load ---- think the biggest pour I was on was a grain elevator base that took 618 yards ------- would hate to know how much shoveling I've done --- prob 1/4 the weight of the world!! ;D ;D--- another one was a water tower base -- we had to wear hip waders because we sank up to our "#$^$%^" in the concrete ------- the only good part was it still had to do with "rocks" !!not sure but I think I know what the word "labor" means now !! ;D------- love the cab!!

First off I want to thank all those hard working folks who replied. Work doesn't always mean physical it is also mental too. It is people like you all that make things bearable in life. Now to the contest, it was really hard to choose. Everyone here works hard and things are never easy. There is only one winner and I think Jonge in construction and digging the drainage ditch got my vote. Me being a ex ditch digger can relate LOL! I made another cab from the same rock for a second place. Lcars and the drywall job gets it. I have done drywall in my home and man, it is tough work. I couldn't imagine doing it for a living, and possibly losing a girlfriend over it would really suck. Congrats to Jonge and Lcars, you dudes are the salt of the earth! Here are your winings: Jonge: Lcars:

Congrats Jonge!! Congrats Lcars!! Congrats, too, to all of you who posted. Your hard work may often go without due thanks but somewhere there is a someone who's life is better because you all did your jobs.
I've been blessed in that my jobs gave me the chance to work at helping people recover strength and/or mobility and/or live pain-free/pain diminished. I also have had over 20 years of teaching opportunities which never, ever felt like a job or work, as such. For me, the very hardest job I ever undertook was raising our two kids. Thankfully I was married to the most wonderful fellow I know so even that job wasn't a burden.
Blessings on all of you hard workers. And blessings, too, on Tony for offering such beautiful awards for jobs well done!

It won't replace a girlfriend but it still looks good, won't talk back and won't just leave me for no aparent reason after two years together. ;D Thanks a bunch Tony, you da MAN!

Congratulations Jonje and LCARS and thanks to all who entered. I am glad I did not have to decide the winners. That would have been harder then the poetry contest. Daniel
