I just want to say " poop on all of you that live in a area that you can find beautiful rocks. I live in Indiana and the only thing around here is grey limestone. I do go out in the creek bed and find some brown and white flint but not enough to fill your pockets up. Nah, I'm just kidding! I'm just jelious.

I agree with Tellfamily, As I get ou and start collecting I'll be willing to help the rock poor. I just have to remember to take my camera to get picks of where the rocks live too (You know I find it funny that I'm still a new member, I remember when Gaetz started as a guest guess I don't post enough - oh well ) Jeff

Poop back atcha! the Rock Trails guide that covers you tells of lots of rocks in the Hoosier state! I couldn't look for any last time I was there, though, since I was trapped on I-64 in about 2 feet of snow 2 days before Christmas. Hard to find rox in 2 feet of snow.

WELL! puppie poop on you too. I have never found squat in this hell hole of a state! There is limestone, granite, and other minerals. But not a hole heck of a lot to tumble. And why were you comming threw Indiana? Did you want to see bare corn fields and snow?

Remember that big snowstorm right before Christmas? For some insane reason we had decided to drive from STLouis to Baltimore for the holidays instead of going on the big bird like sensible people, with bad results. Next insane mistake was taking I-64 instead of I-70, ensuring going through the worst of the blizzard.
When I-64 was closed I did some creative map reading getting us up to TerreHaute via a US hwy and some 2-laners -- these were a solid sheet of ice, which was entertaining in some respects but very slow. However, it was a pretty sunny drive along the Wabash and I even saw an eagle. I-70 was no prize, either, as it turned out, but at least it was open.
Even diamonds have been found in Indiana!

I went to college in IN (Hanover College) in the SE part of the state. There is a state park (Clifty Falls??) I think in Madison, IN. I picked up lots of rocks there in the river beds (lots of fossils too) which I plan to tumble someday. Anyway, the park has lots of rock opportunities and is a great place to hike around. Give it a try - I plan to go back on my next reunion - hopefully.

Hey Brett I understand how you feel!OHIo, there's suppose to be all kinds of rocks around, but they don't tell you their 50/100 feet under dirt or other rock! The only neat rock i've gotten that's from ohio is Flint ridge flint and I had to buy that also. Had my son looking for awhile but he's partly color blind! Ya I got a 10 gallon bucket full of gray flint or something like it if any one wants it.

Rocks is what you make of em- Western New York don't have much- Fossils- Limestone- sandstone- But the glaciers dump a crapload (oops Poopload) of oddballs I find Garnets, Feldspars, some quartizite, granite, limestone fossils (usually corals) milky quartz and a jasper here or there- THey are by no means plentiful (maybe 10 pounds total in 20 years of looking) but they are there You just gotta keep at it- study the guides be ready to take a trip if need be- Heck I've gone out to Herkimer 3 or 4 times (about a 3.5 hour drive) just to lug 100Lbs of rough home to break up (and KD lives like 10 min. from there and she has never gone!) Keep your eyes open when ever you take a walk- You just never know what you may stubble accross! (BTW Limestone (some of it at least) tumbles pretty well (I got some working right now!)

I live in east Texas and we have petrified wood all over the place in this area. It took me a while to figure it out but the hill top I live on evedently used to be a river bottom. When I moved here I thought the drive had been rocked with river stones...turns out they were native. I have all manner of wood and agates with some quartz mixed in my drive.

Hey Brett, try this link and go to the field trips reports page and find Indiana. This site is pretty good for rock hounders. Pretty knowledgeable group there. www.mcrocks.com/page18.htmlJeff
