hey guy,
if the rock in the last picture feels kind of waxy then its a chert, looks like one, and it would polish.
the one you labeled granite may be, tough to tell with the picture, a granite must have at least 20% quartz and that looks awefully dark for that. maybe a granodiorite (5%-20% quartz) or diorite.
the first one is not limestone, the second i can't tell but the color suggest some blend of pyroxine and olivine which would put it in the basalt neighborhood, or possiby a greenschist. cheers jerry

Stefan its about 2 hours less driving to Flint Ridge than to Cincy. It would be around 120 miles from Cleveland. Thanks Duckbean I called Gary and talked to his wife she said it is not possible to collect on her place because they do not have insurance for it. She did give me a name Nethers she said they allow digging on their place.Told me if I have trouble finding Them to call her back and she would be glad to find the No.for me nice lady. I have heard of Nethers I think some one on RTH gets their flint from them. A rock hounding trip sounds great May is good for me to. George

Hey Stefan - From Cleveland, you would probably be best to take I-77 south to I-70 west back towards Columbus. The place we are looking at is around the Newark area (Brownsville to be exact). This is where the Flint Ridge Park is located. We can't hunt the park itself as it is a protected archeological site, but are hoping to find someone that borders it that will let us dig on their property. This web-site has a few details on the area - the MapQuest tab will show you the directions - just zoom out till you see Cleveland and follow from there. www.localhikes.com/Hikes/FlintRidge_1840.aspHere is another link to the Flint Ridge Park itself if you are interested. www.ohiohistory.org/places/flint/

OK I missed Sandman's post on his Nethers Ranch tumble. That is where you can pay to dig and that is the best looking flint at Flint Ridge at least thats what I have been told. I just started some Nelli Blue that was gave to me it has been in 90 for 3 weeks and looks great so far. Can't wait for the snow to melt as I will go up and do a bit of searching before our planned trip. Would like to find a source for the Nellie Blue as it is a very nice blue( blue rocks are my fav lol). George
