This stuff has proven it's self to help in so many ways. Gives a "slip" agent so the slurry doesn't get stuck, Helps the grit stick to the stone in coarse and 500/600, Cleans the stones and the barrel/bowl between grinds, Makes a great burnish agent after 1000 grit and/or pre polish and after polish. Try it!

so are you saying you actually put borax in with the grit for all the stages, like 3 tablespoons 60/90, and 1 tablespoon of borax all in the same load?

I checked the barrels Sunday and intended to add a bit of Borax to each. Remembered to put in it four barrels and forgot to add it in the other two! Oh well, no harm done. Next time around maybe I can remember to add it to all of them!

After 600 (which, in the vibe, would be equal to 200 in a rotary) I add one or 2 tablespoons. Then burnish with it between stages. Can't hurt, seems to help.

Borax and acohol is my soldering paste. Boric acid and alcohol is my firescale prevention. 75% borax, and water is great soldering flux, gold and silver and the copper alloys. Borax sprinkled on silver melt, or gold melt is the precasting flux. Pool acid is pickle for removing flux and firescale prior to polishing.

Borax, my favorite mineral! This is one thing I will never be without. It's so great, and you don't even have to own 20 mules to get it.
Another little tip, ants won't cross it. Sprinkle a ring around your house and ants won't cross it to get into your house.
Ron
ps. Did I mention that I own stock in U.S. Borax?

I love the way it makes my hands feel!!!! LMAO I started adding it to the barrels in all stages- It seems to let the grit work better (and I have soft water to begin with) I also love it for cleaning up the barrel between stages (it gets that caked on lid grit off every time)

Can some of a shaved bar of ivory soap be added to each stage in place of borax? would that be good or bad?

I've got both, but I bought the ivory before I heard abouth borax. Now I use the borax, but Ivory helped to get the slurrystarted too.

MR, I tried the borax for ants. It doesn't work I Sprinkled a circle of borax (nice and thick) around an ant hole. Ants just walked over it just like it wasn't even there.

Hmm wonder what it would cost to send you some? Or maybe write the 20mule Borax company and see if they can point ya in the right direction to finding it over there?

20 Mule Team Borax is marketed by Dial Corporation in the U.S. and Canada. I don't see where they have a presence in the British Isles. Dial Corporation, however is owned by The Henkel Group based in Germany. Maybe they market the product in the UK under a different name. Any of that sound familiar?
