i love the squirrels. some people in town hate their squirrels so they trap them and bring them to my house and let them go. i quit buying feeders and just throw it all on the ground and the birds and squirrels gobble it up. i have a white dove that has shown up. beautiful bird in flight.
i hate i didn't have my camera with me outside yesterday. i walked up on a snake in the process of trying to swallow a frog. i scared the snake (and visa versa) but in the snakes fright it released the frog and we all ran in separate directions : ).
great pics ron & dorothy. a grizzly at the window might cause me to hurt myself and anybody in my way!

Strangest thing last night- I was starting a fire to cook some Ribs- I was sitting out on our garage patio and I heard this bleeting (kinda like a sheep) It was windy so I thought maybe it was a creaky tree- but it kept getting louder- I spun around and there was a fawn walking down my driveway! Looked at me and bleeted again- Scared the bejeebers out of me! well I moved slowly to grab the camera but it spooked and took off- Well I spotted it in the woods with momma and sibling (It was just calling for momma) so I knew all was gonna be ok- but I've never heard any noise come out of a deer (except an occasional snort) Awww Stefan, how lucky you were to have heard that in the wild. You don't very often get close enough to a fawn to hear that. Last month on my way home from visiting the grandkids, I stopped at my cousins, he has a wildlife photography place. First thing he asked me was to look at his computer so while I was sitting there I heard this bleating, like you said, sounds like a little lamb. Turned around that there were three fawns coming to visit me. After feeding them they curled up by my feet to sleep. One of them, the one I feed thought my t-shirt was it's pacifier or something, it just wanted to keep sucking on the edge of it. It was just fun!!

Ok, long as were doing wildlife. Here's a little critter that comes to pick up the dropped feed at under my feeders. I think I've finally identified him but I wrote to the MN DNR to ask for sure. Anyway, I believe it is a Franklin's Ground Squirrel. If it is, the little guy is on the protected list in Illinois and extremely rare in northern Missouri and Iowa. I know we have at least two of them here, saw two today anyway. He's pretty tame, I was sitting on the steps of our deck about three feet away from him taking the pics. You can see the peanuts to the right of his head, my husband was tossing them to him but he didn't eat any of them.

OMG I work for a company that sells Exotic pet supplies- We looked into a feed for the Richardsons Ground Squirrel (a very close cousin to the Franklin?) they are very cute- but can deliver a very nasty bite with there teeth! Please be careful around him! Oh and we don't sell a feed for them- they just don't seem to tame very well

He's quite happy with sunflower seeds. I'm not interested in trying to tame him, just think he's kind of cute. I like him better than the chipmunks and squirrels cause he only eats seeds that have fallen on the ground. The chipmunks and squirrels are raiders, continually taking the food I put out for the birds, nasty little poops.

oh ron your pic doesn't do him/her justice! when we had the cabin at the lake we had some and they are huge birds. true woody woodpeckers. i'd like to put a tape on their wingspan. they use to peck on our neighbors cabin and we loved to watch. i miss seeing them. get out there and get a better pic ron lol!
