She sure is Pho, she sure is ... You're a grand old flag, You're a high flying flag And forever in peace may you wave. You're the emblem of The land I love. The home of the free and the brave. Ev'ry heart beats true 'neath the Red, White and Blue, Where there's never a boast or brag. Should auld acquaintance be forgot, Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

Tis but a symbol, but, a symbol we can believe in, make better, and reach out. I have seen it all my life. Kinda seems natural.

right as usual, Doc. we tend to take it for granted as we've enjoyed the freedoms associated with our flag all of our lives. at least in this country. you have to be a bit careful being an American when traveling abroad, especially these days. some people love ya and others hate ya.
i was in Seoul, South Korea (on business with my husband) and was thanked personally by two businessmen when they discovered my father had fought in the Korean War. and i was spit on when i was in Germany by some old geriatric soldier. i pretended to be anything BUT American one time in Italy because i feared for my own safety.....
i've been in other countries and have been downright ASHAMED of my fellow countrymen for how they behaved in a guest country. i am humbled by some other cultures and countries, but i am happy to be in America and an American. i just wish the world could be more united for the common good.

A thought just crossed my small mind....if America is so bad..then why are millions of people willing to risk everything, including their lives, to come here? Cher, Doc, KD..thanks for your comments and I do agree with you 100%.

God Bless The U.S.A. by Lee Greenwood If tomorrow all the things were gone, I’d worked for all my life. And I had to start again, with just my children and my wife.
I’d thank my lucky stars, to be livin here today. ‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom, and they can’t take that away.
And I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free. And I wont forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up, next to you and defend her still today. ‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land, God bless the USA.
From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee. Across the plains of Texas, From sea to shining sea.
From Detroit down to Houston, and New York to L.A. Well there's pride in every American heart, and its time we stand and say.
That I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free. And I wont forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up, next to you and defend her still today. ‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land, God bless the USA.
And I’m proud to be and American, where at least I know I’m free. And I wont forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up, next to you and defend her still today. ‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land, God bless the USA.
Our country has its faults. Our leaders have their faults and shortcomings. But I'd rather live here than die anywhere else.

I don't want to burst anyone's patriotic bubble but the stars & stripes is starting to look more & more like a certain twisted cross to me... www.bushflash.com/14.htmlJust for the record, most of the Americans I have met are decent people. It's not the people that worry me, it's the government.

God bless our country! i'm with you cuervo. maybe i've visited the wrong places but the ones i have visited i would never want to call home. i lived for a year out of this fine country and i cried when i returned. where i lived if the price of gas rose, they had an island blackout which meant you had no water, no lights and crime escalates in these conditions. i was fortunate enough to have an inside contact that would give me a few hours warning when these things were going to occur which left me time to collect water in every sink, bathtub, pot or pan. you had to get some boiled for drinking and the rest was for sponge bathing sometimes for weeks. we've got it really good here and we should be grateful. i think i'll go take a long, hot bath and be grateful that i can. kim

LCARS...I have been all over the world in my travels and have met some very nice people in every country I went to. I have sat down with WWII German vets..and talked about that war with them....I have talked to the rich and the very poor... The vast majority of people in any given country are decent, caring people. It is the few who wish to live outside established laws and customs that bother me. If a persons views are different than mine, I can respect that. BUT...if that same person can not or will not respect my views...that is something I have a problem with. I do not always agree with what my country is doing. I do not always agree with my leaders. Same thing goes for other countries. A lot of people only want to show the shortcomings and faults of the US. They forget about what their own country is doing or has done. They forget about what is good and decent about the US or their own country. I wonder just how many Americans bitch and bellyache about the country but won't vote in any election......How many of your countrymen do the same thing. It strikes me as being a bit odd that we as a free nation have elections and so many people just won't take the time to cast a ballot and people in some countries never even have a chance to vote about anything. We seem to take our duties and responsibilities so lightly. The way I see it is if a person does not vote in an election then they have no right to run down the results of that election. One of my biggest peeves is all these people running around and saying..I am an African-American,,or I am an Irish-American..or whatever country ....either you are an American or you are something else. Same in Canada...either you are a Canadian or you are not. How simple can that be. As for me..I am an American...and proud of it. Most Americans are decent, good people. There are some not so good and some very bad Americans....but show me another country that does not have the same thing. The film your link goes to offends me......it is one sided and in my opinion was probably made by some idiot who realy hates America. I would bet that same person has a bank account full of American dollars..... OK...I will get off my soapbox now..and let some one else step up....

Fantastic! I saw a bumper sticker today, that said, "Real americans speak english" Sorry Earthdog, Not trying to start any kind of argument with you, or disrespect you, or anyone else, but my mother did not speak English. She was more of an American than many so-called "Americans." She was an immigrant who became an American Citizen and was dang proud of it. Let anyone dis the U.S. and she was the first one to stand up and defend her new land. She was a "Real American." Condor

Out of respect to my native american ancestors, I too, will have respectuflly disagree. Blackfoot is a language that was spoken here before English and I don't think anyone would argue that we're real americans.

I honestly believe this is referring to the current situation, not our native americans or the immigrants who came to these shores through Ellis Island. It's the problem with things as they are today. People want to come live here but we're supposed to provide them with the exact thing they have in the home they are trying to get away from. That's wrong. Anyone who wants to come live here should have to learn english, we should not have to spend millions of our tax $$'s to make things easy for foreigners who won't learn to speak our common language.

No Cher, I don't agree. I think the bumpersticker reflects more than that. Isn't the real problem that people are trying to define what it is to be American? It's the "I'm in, you're out" principle. Foreigners, after all, pay taxes as well. And if they don't learn to speak English, well, their children will. I think that America...and Americans...have bigger hearts and broader minds than a lot of people give them credit for. And there's room here for a lot of different kinds of people, with a lot of different colored skin, who speak a lot of different languages and who worship a lot of different gods. Okay...now I'll get off the soapbox too.

There are a lot of Americans who can not speak English. It does not make them any less an American than anyone else. I am one of those who beleive English should be the "official" language of the United States. I beleive if a person comes to American, becomes a citizen, they should try to learn English. For some that is a very hard job to do indeed. My mother in law does not speak English all that good but she does try. I too have some Native American blood running in my veins but can not speak Cherokee. If I were to move to another country to live I would make every effort to learn that language. Being American is a lot more than just speaking English. It does bother me a lot when I go to some function or party and two or three people are standing aside talking is some foreign language no one else understands. I now kick the soapbox over to the next person......
