No Sir...can't say that I have. I'm really itching to make a trip to da Norf Country soon, but I'm strapped for cash and my wife is having major back surgery in Nov. so it probably won't happen 'till next year. I'll have to try it next time I'm up!!

If you get up here in the fall you can pick up some-- Probably one of the best products to come out of the Labatt brewery ever!!!!!

I think Guiness, despite appearances, is a very light bear. Something like 120 calories (Light beer is 100 and regular is 160). Am I speaking about a hallucination from too many? csroc

Here's my contribution to the Guinness thread! We had tons more stuff here at the house about a year ago, but had to put in one of our storage units so we could have our house back! I think we have a couple more neons in storage, (very hard to get!) and lots of pictures, posters & tins. And your totally right Susan...traditional black & tan IS made with Harps (I have a huge Harps mirror in same room as this stuff) but Harps is even more speicalized & didn't sell well at our place.

Funny. I can get both Harp and Guinness at my local Albertsons. There it sits amongst the Dos Equis, Pacifico, Corona and Modelo Especial....(most of which I also like...) which one would expect to see in my corner of the world. S

There's a much larger selection of bottled beer in grocery stores, but we have a sports bar & Guinness is on tap here!

The "Guinness Drinking Companion" by Leslie Dunkling and published by Guinness Publishing defined a "Black and Tan" as "Guinness and Mild". But, since Mild is no longer made, people substitute Harp or Bass, or anything else handy.

Ha ha! I love number six Ron.
6 "As you near the end of your pint, it is the custom to order another one. It is a well known fact that a bird does not fly on one wing. "
I'll have to remember that one my next trip to the pub. Interesting info too Ron.
Kevin, Guinness is erroneously thought to be a powerful beer. In fact the alcohol content of a draught is 4.1%. while a Buttwiper, er, Budwiser is 4.6%.
And Chass is right, it doesn't have many more calories than a domestic brew. (around 40 calories, Bud Light is around 32) In fact to me Guinness tastes light.
Anyone ever have Red Hook Triple Bock brewed with Starbucks coffee before? Now that was strong. I haven't seen it on the shelf for years though.

Irish propaganda.. ;D ..furthering the cause so to speak... That sounds like a 'must have' book Ron...

Hey Baz, I've had most everything that Red Hook makes, but I don't recall the Triple Bock. That was probably a limited run. Something like the Samuel Adams Triple Bock that cost about $18.00 a bottle around here. I drank a bottle of that and I think I'd rather have my $18.00 back. Ever have any of the "Rogue" beers from the Oregon Brewing Company? They make my most favorite beers of all time. I was at the brewery in Newport, Oregon once and spent the day with John Maier, the brewmaster. He is one of the all time greats of brewing. He used to be the brewmaster for the Alaska Brewing Company, where he created the now famous, "Alaska Smoke Porter". Up until a few years ago it was only available in Alaska, still tough to find. Ron ps. I LOVE beer! pss. Did I ever post a photo of my 3-tap kegerator that I have at home?

they even got pre cooked baked taters...in them stores...with cheese and all...i seen them yesterday ;D...i hadnt trimmed my beard in a few days....and the workers seemed to look at me like i was a shoplifter or something....but i dont care....they came to my neighborhood.
those pics of the memorabilia are so cool...guinness seems to be a crowd pleaser.

Ron,
Rogue beers sound farmiliar. Where the heck have I seen them? You've probably had Stone IPA and Arrogant Bastard Ale? I've got a dozen pint glasses from Stone with "Fizzy yellow beer is for wussies" and such on them.
It was actually Red Hook Double Black Stout (Made with Starbucks Coffee). I only found that out because I just did a search on Google and found some threads about it. The authors seem to long for it which probably indicates that it isn't around anymore. I think I had it in about 1994 the last time. Apparently Red Hook is owned by Starbucks or vice versa.
There is an Alaska Ale that has been popping up on taps around Flagstaff. Could that be the same brewer?
Man, I've got to see your triple tap kegerator. I'll bet I'd save money on beer with a kegerator.
Was that Sam Adams Triple Bock the one in the sapphire blue bottle with gold lettering and a cork? I got talked out of buying that by the owner of the shop where I used to buy beer in California. Yep, I've heard a few times that it was awful!

Kevin,
I'm right there with you man. I've got the hair growning and the beard too. It is funny because I have had the clean cut look, the bald head with the goatee and long hair and a beard. People always have treated me different based on the hair! Prejudice isn't just based on the color of one's skin eh? My best friend is tatooed everywhere except his head. When he is out in shorts and a tee people look at him like he is from hell! It's funny because he is pretty conservative, highly educated (going for his PhD) and mild mannered.

Hey Baz, yeah, the blue bottle, that's the one. Makes me want to get a drink of water just thinking about it. The Rogue beers until fairly recently were only available in 22 ounce bottles. They didn't use paper labels, but were screen printed. They used to have completely different designs on each style of beer, but now the marketing people have pressured them into using a more standardized design to promote brand recognition. I have quite a collection of their bottles, in fact I have one bottle that they don't even have in the brewery pub collection. The older bottles are quite the collector items now. Stone IPA and Arrogant Bastard, you bet! In fact, I just had a bottle of Stone 06 Vertical Epic Ale. California and Oregon are definitely the places to be if you want good beer. It's hard for me to get the good stuff here when Michigan doesn't allow beer to be bought mail order. Ron

Hey Kev, as you can see from my avatar, I'm a little hairy. Had long hair and a beard and moustache all my life. You would be amazed at how many people think that anybody with long hair and a beard is named Charles Manson. In reality, all of my hair is non-violent right down to it's roots! Heck, I don't even kill insects. Ron

One of my most favorite beers is from California. Steelhead Pale Ale. I can only find it at one place in town.
Can beer be shipped to you "private party" Ron?

I figured this was a beer thread and didn't read it till now, I, don't drink beer, nor wine (don,t like the taste) so forgive me my stupidity, I've heard of the beer in the States being watered down compared to Canadian beer (not from experience) but this is what I heard, anyone know if Canadian Beer has more alcohol than US beer or is it just light tasting??? Please be nice to me, I'm just curious - not making waves
My dad use to make beer - he made a stout beer at some point - used it for slug bait in the garden - worked wonderfully for that purpose -

Hey Tweety - You're right.... Before prohibition American beer could hold it's own against the best European beers but afterwards US beer was made much lighter by introducing rice in to the brewing process..... nasty! hehehe....
