a good friend showed up about 2.30 this morning...and said come on lets go fishing...his parents own about 1600 acres nearby with 7 ponds on it.
so i said cool...i had been up drinking beer anyway(its the weekend)...doctor said i could cher if you see this....so we go buy the cabin first...and get the 4 wheelers...and head to the pond.
about an hour later..we see headlights coming down the dirt road..we hop on the 4 wheelers to go see who it is...its the cops.
we stop ..they stop...and they start saying there has been pouchers in the area...who are we...and so on...matt tells them that its his parents property...so they start asking for i.d. and stuff...i had mine in my wallet...but matt's was in the truck...so the cop said lets go to the truck....we told them that you cant get to the truck or the cabin in a car...just cant do it...you need a 4 wheel drive...ill have to take you on the 4 wheeler....of course they wouldnt do that.
well matt says lets go to the pond so we can get our poles out of the water and stuff...and he will go and get the truck and drive it back up....and i told the cops i would stay with them until he got back...so we go to the pond...and the first thing the cops saw was our shotguns propped up against the chairs...man they nutted up...told us to stay where we were at...went and got our shotguns...they werent loaded thank goodness...took our shells that were on the ground beside them...then the shit started.
they wanted to know why we didnt tell them about the shotguns...and stuff like that....matt then made the big mistake..he said "look here you stupid bas**rd"...this is my property and you are the 1 trespasing....immediately we were told to turn around and put our hands on the car....they handcuffed us...and hauled us away to the substation for trying to charge us with a bunch of stupid stuff.
here is the good part....its now 6.30 in the morning...the sheriff comes walking in...and sees matt....and wants to know what in the world is he doing there...and he tells him the whole thing...the sheriff tells the 2 deputies...take them back to where you got them from...and see me in my office when you get your asses back here.
i didnt know the sheriff was married to matt's aunt...i hope the deputies dont get in any trouble(well ya i do)...but they were being petty...and wouldnt beleive matt at the same time...and were going to try and stick us with some stupid charges...such as public drunk and stuff like that....even though we were on his property.

Give the wrong people power, and that's what happens. Law enforcement is a tough gig, but it seems like every idiot with a GED can be a cop. I think they should raise the standards. If cops made 100K a year, we'd probably get a better batch of officers. Not gonna happen though. Just like teachers and paramedics, seems like the people with the most important jobs get paid the least.

I'm an idiot, and I have a diploma, I can't be a cop, they won't have me I been a bad boy and have a record. I'd like to be a Harley riding cop, they would probly fire me though, for putting a bunch of chrome on the cop bike. cpdad, thats a funny one. You'll be laughing about that for years. I can just see the cops faces when they laid eyes on the shotguns. I had a simular run in with the DNR years ago and I got mouthy with them. Funny stuff years later.

I have had a lot of run in's with the police in my younger years. I have always got out of them (even a potential D.U.I.) by being as respectful (read; kissing a**) as possible.
Cops are people too, they have a tough job. Just like doctors, priests and air traffic controllers, they make mistakes. Even though I HAVE A G.E.D., I wouldn't want to have to deal with the idiocy that cops have to handle on a daily basis. I respect the heck out of them as much as I do our troops.

Having just got back from a day of pike-fishing, what I want to know is what kind of fish are you catching at 2:30 a.m.?... the fish around here pretty much shut down not long after sunset.

well you gotta admit y'all were probably looking mighty "fishy" lol. what i want to know is what were they doing on 1600 acres of private land. that can't be on their regular beat and you didn't say they were game wardens. i think they might be the poachers.

Those cops were breaking the law.... trespassing on private land without a warrant... You don't do that here in Texas.. especially at night.. it's a good way to get shot!!
I think Kim is right... they were probably doing something out there that they shouldn't have been doing.... and you guys rode up on 'em....

rambo trout..LMAO...thats funny hermatite...hahahaha.
we were totally cool with them at first....i asked matt why did ya go off on them man..he haid damn kev...he laid my gun down on the ground that made me mad...then he got all nasty because 1 of us didnt think about the guns being there...and tell them about them...was we suppose to remember about the beer in the cooler to..and tell them about that .
if they wouldnt have laid his gun in the dirt...things would have probably been ok.
we catch the larger catfish and bass at night here in georgia...2 to 7 am...they pretty much quit biting during the day.
we carry the shotguns with us because of the water moccasions...they can get very aggresive in the summer...and actually challenge you to a fight..i have been bit by 1 before...it aint no fun at all.
they may be the poachers protecting there spot...the pond we were at was about a quarter mile from the road...and we were using the lights from the 4 wheelers to see with...so they could see the lights from the road.

It would be easy enough to just lay out there some night with no lights to see if those cops come back...with their own fishing poles.....catch them red-handed. I'd make a citizens arrest and make them walk back to town.....tow their car off.....make their boss extremely happy then...

Man that story is a hoot but playing devils advocate here, a couple of things should be noted. Around these parts ( and I'm an ardent gunner and glub club member) we don't mix guns and alcohol. It would get ya kicked out of our club flat out. Also, by law here police can't be accused of trespass because they are allowed on private property to enforce the laws because it's necessary. If they see folks trespassing on my ranch, should they have to ask me to go on and catch them...nope! Of course I have cop friends but we don't call them names either. Matter of fact , don't call anyone bad names unless looking to get in a fight. Also, never met a cop who doesn't get freaky when they run into folks with guns and don't get told about their presence. I'd freak in those circumstances! It goes with the job. Finally, I can't believe how much negativity is being directed at the police here who were just trying to do their job. I like it when my property gets patrolled for poachers. They had no way of knowing who ya were or what you were up too and you were friggin drinking with guns present and mouthing off *LOL*. I'd of cuffed ya too till things were sorted out. Oh, and having the sheriff be a relative is nice for gettin you off the hook, but don't make your behavior any more forgivable....mel

hey mel...you are correct about the guns and alcohol...thats 1 reason we dont keep the shotguns loaded...we might fall over and shot ourselves..LOL
i dont have a clue if they are allowed on private property here or not...but the shore came onto it...and took us away LOL.
and i didnt have a problem with them...my buddy didnt either...from what he says...untill they laid his gun down in the dirt....they knew better than that...or should have...heck i was being friendly as i could be..i was gonna hang out with them...while he went and got his truck with his i.d. in it.
but if they would have laid my shotgun down in the dirt...i would told them to please get my gun off the ground..i wouldnt lay yours in the dirt...and see where it went from there.
im still not really mad at them....more so at my buddy matt probably for getting mad and mouthing off and putting us in that situation anyway..LOL
the sad part is my buddy wont let it go...when they gave us our shotguns back...they didnt give us our shells...instead of letting it go...he wants his shells back...when he called me i told him that was stupid...but he said he paid for them and he wants them back...go figure.
oh ya mel....i didnt mouth off to a soul...i kept quite the whole time....the only word i said was when they cuffed us...and i looked at matt and said STUPID...LOL.

cpdad: *LOL* Well at least you kept your sese of humor about it all. Like your buddy, I'm not perfect either and many times my temper has got me in trouble. I used to work on a federal bird project and had an occasion to be monitoring bird populations on some NASA property near Mountain View, CA. One of the military security officers got in my face about the spotting equipment I was using near their restricted area and actually cursed at me. I'm ashamed to say that I'm not a one with which to engage in a cursing contest and after a long burst of anatomical impossibilities I suggested he do to hiimself, I went back to my optical equipment. Moments later I felt myself lifted bodily in the air by two of the largest military policemen it's ever been my displeasure to meet. Now I kid you not, I'm six four and at the time 220 and these fellows had me off the ground so far my toes weren't even dragging and into a cell quicker than a heartbeat. *LOL* It was all straightened out and I got my NASA clearence but darn it taught me to " always" be polite to folks when ya talk to them.....mel

Hey, Mel. Not trying to dis' cops here. I had several in my family. There are several in my church as well that I am friends with. Plus many more acquantances over the years - and the majority of them were a**holes when they were on duty (from stories they told me). Maybe that comes with the job as a protective measure, or maybe police work attracts a certain type of person. I still respect cops for the job they have to do, but most of them seem to go way overboard on the authority thing. This from someone that was never a cop so take it for a grain of salt. I will always treat them with the respect that their position deserves if not themselves personally.

Respect for the badge should be a two way street. I know many cops at all levels who have no respect for the badge they wear. They treat it as a license to be cruel, demeaning, overbearing and the list goes on. There are also many many cops who go out of their way to set an example of how to deal with people. I have a number of police officers in my family. I will always respect the badge...sometimes I will even respect the person wearing it.

You said it quite a bit more succintly than I, Pho. Unfortunately the 2 cops I have known that I do respect aren't even the 2 from my family.
