You folks answered my question! Thank you. does anyone know a good way to clean up the outside of a small geode? I have an about nickel size red crystal one I found and I’d love to wire harness it and use it as a pendant, but the shell is really rough..not too pretty. im a geode freak, love hunting them in southern Indiana.have found a few here in mid Missouri since we moved. I actually display mine right outside my front door by the steps. I figure if some yahoo steals some..well they must have needed a little beauty in their life, right? Thanks in advance, carol

I'm assuming you don't have any lapidary equipment such as cabbing wheels or flat lap. For a small piece such as you described, you could smooth off the rough spots using diamond files (you can find these in the tile section of places like Home Depot, Lowes, Amazon), and if that's still not smooth enough, perhaps followed by automotive wet sandpaper in steps from 100, 300, 600, up to 1200+ grits.
