That's true. I try to teach kids how to properly care for birds ( they see me when I take mine out side for fresh air and sunshine) but too often the response I get from the parents is "What's the big deal? They're just birds."
It really pitiful but it seems like too many people are raised to believe animals are disposable beings. Around here we still have a big problem with cockfighting and dog fight rings. One old man really got abusive with me once saying I was a disgrace because cockfighting is part our southern heritage. I don't count it as part of my heritage. I don't even care if my ancestors were into it. I myself know that it's wrong and I firmly believe that anyone involved in it should be dragged off to jail for a few years till they figure it out.

Well I hope I didn't upset too many- Judging from the response we all seem to feel pretty strongly- And I think we all agree (no matter where the blame is pointed) that this was a shame- Just a darn shame.

How would you like to live in China?"They just slaughtered 50,000 dogs, went into the villages at night so the dogs would bark so they could find them, took them outside and beat them to death in front of their owners. They would have to kill me before I'd let them beat my dogs to death. That just blew my mind. Made me so thankful for the lame laws we do have anyway.

Wycked, you are lucky to have available that kind of services for your $75!!
That's all Im going to say because I'll end up getting kicked off the board for being nasty, and I'm not going to rebuttle to defend my opinion.

Hey Joi, I don't think you read that completely right. Susan said that the cost to adopt was $75, and it included those services. She did then point out what those same services cost at a budget veterinarian a whole lot more. I try to avoid the dissension, but hey, don't be picking on Susan! She is very dear to me, and I will defend her! If people can't afford to adopt from a shelter, then they can't afford the animal at all. Getting animals and not having the proper care done, is making you part of the problem! That makes you just as responsible as the shelter.
