Anyone in the Twin Cities, please let us know you are ok!! Here's a link to some info, I believe it's up to 36 injured so far.
www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2007/08/01/ap3979096.htmlHere's a better link, 7 dead, 60 injured www.kstp.com/They are saying 4 dead, 70 injured this morning, don't know how they could screw that up ...

This happened just a few miles from here. Just horrible. I truly hope none of our friends here, nor their friends or family were on that bridge.

It is a terrible tragedy! But there are also many miracles, too! Like the school bus full of kids that survived coming back from a day at the water park. Or the guy who said he fell straight down 30-40 feet in his truck. He said his truck split right in half, but he survived! My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in such a bizarre accident.

this surely did not help my fear of bridges. you got that right......a few years back we had a similar collapse on the NY State Thruway, they rebuilt it, but i still get the heebie jeebies whenever i have to go over it. and now the news media is shining light on all the other aging infrastructure issues around the counrty.......makes you want to just stay home. Kim.. I thought about you when I first heard this story.
Definitely saying some prayers for the folks involved. Marni is right, I keep hearing miracle stories about close calls and narrow escapes.

now the news media is shining light on all the other aging infrastructure issues around the counrty.......makes you want to just stay home. KD The bridge was only 40 years old which is not considered old but the bridge was rated 50% deficient when it was checked out in 2005. Minnesota Congressman James Oberstar is the head of the Transportation Committee in Washington and has been trying to get more attention paid to the problems with old bridges. Why does it always take a tragedy before people listen.

Definitely prayer! Definitely miracles! Definitely makes you wonder about other bridges.
excerpt from today's KC Star: Missouri has nearly 24,000 bridges, including about 10,000 on the state highway system. About 7,900 Missouri bridges were considered structurally deficient or functionally obsolete in 2005, according to federal data.

This is not good. Hoping & praying for all. Gotta tell ya though...since 9/11...husband becomes GLUED to the set whenever ANYTHING like this happens. He'll even get up in the middle of the night to watch for hours in between snoozing. He kept yellin at me yesterday while getting dinner ready that I had to come see....come look...look at this! I told him he'd be stuck in front of the tv for the next 3 days & I'd get to see all I wanted walking from room to room...

When I first heard the news I thought of Rockkitten (the only member I knew for certain from MN). I lost my Internet connection last night and only got it back a few minutes ago so I couldn't check on anyone in RTH. It's been a bit of a relief to read all the postings in this thread--it will be even better when we hear from our Minnnesota buddies.
My prayers and good wishes go out to all who have been affected by this tragedy.

Kim, Warrena if from Iowa.
I totally forgot MrP was from Minnesota, he's from Zimmerman, that's about 25 miles or so north of Minneapolis.
