I think some of the members across the pond may groan, but here it goes.At the tender age of 16 I was fortunate enough to be able to go to Great Britian as an exchange student. My host parents exposed me to all things British, cliche or not.I was even fortunate enough to be there for the Christmas season and loved every moment. The food was sometimes scary and always delightful....to this day I make Toad in the Hole a couple of times a month. My host parents forever made me an anglophile. To the pointof this post, one of the telivision shows I fell in love with then(1974) was Are You Being Served? I have been hooked on British comedies ever since.I have many I watch regularly here on BBc America or PBS also several series on DVD.My absolute favorites are the afore mentioned Are you Being Served? and Mr Bean.Any Britcom fans here at RTH?

yep, i'm a britophile. my first visit was in 1976 and have been back many times, mainly 'cuz i married one of 'em. he is one of us now, got his US citizenship a few years back but most folks think he still talks funny.
i encourage world travel for young people, it shapes their global attitude for the rest of their lives.

I love Hyacinth (Keeping Up Appearances) and we liked Gordan Ramsey from BBC's Ramseys Kithchen Nightmares(OK OK He's a scot). Gordan has become quite the celeb over here now..He is similar to an Ogre boss or two I (and I'm sure many of you) have encountered over the years.

Hyacinth was magic, I loved Victor in One Foot in the Grave, Granville in Open All Hours, Baldrick in Blackadder, and Ade Edmondson and Rik Mayal in anything and everything they did. Must admit to enjoying Are You Being Served too, But I liked Mrs Slocombe best! My childhood favourite however is now available on the web - Just a Minute is the highest echelon of British spoken comedy, and stars many of the brightest and most witty of our performers. Anyone with 30 minutes to spare, just have a go at this..... Every week it's just as good, brings tears to my eyes sometimes. Mr P Merton is a national treasure! My wife and I are big fans of Blackadder and the Vicar of Dibley (actually, that combo might make for a good show itself). On the drama side, we've enjoyed Foyle's War.

I loved "Are You Being Served", too!
We went and saw "Mr. Bean's Holiday" a couple of weekends ago. We loved it, as usual. Only thing we thought of is if you've never watched the series, you may not have gotten some of it, but all in all, is was cute. My 15 year old (who, of course, thinks she's the cool teenager right now) was cracking up. It's nice to see her laughing at "G-rated" humor instead of the junk she watches on cable.
Now, they just need to come out with a new Austin Powers movie. I think an 80's version would be cool, you know, him wearing parachute pants, dancing like MC Hammer, big hair, all the new electronics like video games and Walkmans, MTV and cable TV, etc.

All of the above!! Don't forget Faulty Towers. Currently the PBS station here is running "Keeping Up Appearances" and "Last of the Summer Wine". Pretty much the only shows I purposely sit down to watch, along with some of the mystery dramas. Another favorite in the past was "Halo', Halo'" about a French café owner in occupied France in WWII. Not quite sure how one might make a comedy out of that, but they did!

Diehard Monty Python fan here. This thread reminded me of a video on Youtube, it's Graham Chapman's memorial service; both funny and touching at the same time.

Blarney - I never realised! And now for somthing completely different.... No comments along the lines of Albatros!! or No. 4 - The Larch? No wonder man!, I'd have never guessed Thanks for the link - I had not seen that one for a while, brought back some very funny moments. What a great loss to us all. I can't believe I forgot to mention Dad's Army, Red Dwarf or The Fast Show! - Must have been half asleep - Well it's my excuse anyway. Cheers, H

Loved "Are You Being Served" and "'Allo 'Allo"! We could never quite figure out when PBS was broadcasting them as we'd just stumble on them every once in a while. But we always stopped to watch.

"Are you being served" was another favorite of mine. Remember Mrs Slocombe's ....er ... cat? ;D ...and Faulty Towers was great as well.... John Cleese is brilliant.
