Takila just doesn't understand me, or men. I was looking on Ebay like normal and came across these antique live steam engines. I looked and liked them. So I bought a couple of them. The first one I got is a Wilesco D12 made in the 1950's. Then I bought a brand new one a D106 which is all brass and black. There is a big following of these engines and even a few forums about them. This old one I bought needed a new whistle and to paint the base. Thats all done and it works great and looks pretty cool, IMO. I think I found another new hobby. Thats what Takila is pissed about. I got a great deal on the new one, they sell for $350 and I got it for $178. Doesn't that count for anything? There is all kinds of accessories you can get for them also, like saws, drill presses, grinding wheels along with carnival accessories like windmills, ferris wheel, organ grinder and alot others. www.ministeam.com/acatalog/Wilesco_Carnival_Accesories.htmlI'm sure other people here have had these when they were growing up. Here is the D12, my first live steam engine.

I have a Jensen that I got as a child. I pull it out once a year and fire it up. I has been one of my favorite toys.

Oh, I have one of those, too! Only it doesn't have the glass to see the water into the water tank. It's functional. I have it since childhood, and the only think missing is the whistling device on the top. It is gorgeous. Could it be used for powering a cabbing machine? Adrian

Quite interesting. I don't suppose you could make a short video? That would be something to see!

I live in a farming area and have seen lots of full size steam engines at fairs but never a little guy like that. Cute.

I actually liked getting the cockatiels.......but another darn hobby that's not cheap is getting a bit too much. Our house is not very big to begin with and it's already full to the brim with stuff. The engines are cool and all, but parts are very expensive, the add-ons are very expensive and of course, he can't just buy one. There's a thread about the woes of being a married rockhound...................if it was just one or two hobbies I could handle it, but someone that has several hobbies and then likes to have large collections of "things", well, I just won't go there.....it wouldn't be pretty!

Thats next. A track layout around the backyard and pond would look great... Women just don't understand. Men HAVE to collect things.
