I started doing wirework with beads, long before Olivia got her rock tumbler. Most things I have given away, but here are a couple of examples. The first is a marble, the second is a backgammon piece that my mom found buried in the sand on the beach in Thailand two weeks after the Tsunami, and the third is a polished piece of rose quartz Olivia bought. I got the book "All Wired Up" from the library and it was great. It listed all the tools I needed, talked about materials, techniques, and showed some really amazing pieces from artists. Wendy

Thanks everyone! I forgot to say, the marble and the rock are wrapped in craft wire, but the backgammon piece is wrapped in HH sterling silver. Wendy

Wendy -
Your pic inspired me to get out ( and dust off ) my copy of "All Wired Up" and give wire-wrapping another go.
I tried the marble one & it turned out okay, but not as nice & curvy as yours. I think I need to find something bigger to wrap the wire around ( I used a fat magic marker ). Other than that, all is well.
Thanks again for motivating me into action with your lovely wraps!!!

Pebbles, Try just eyeballing it. With a little practice you won't need a magic marker or anything else. The first one I made didn't look nearly that nice because my initial circle was to small, so rather than dig all over the house for something bigger, I just guessed and it came out much better. Keep at it, you will have beautiful wraps in no time!

Wendy You did an outstanding job with the cabs. I guess my better half and I are going to try to wrap some stones. Your examples give us a lot to try an emulate.

Lookin' good to me Wendy, all you have to do now is more of them!
BTW, Hows your weather over there this winter, are you getting rained on like we are in the Pacific NW. Germany is supposed to be alot like Oregon and Washington per my old German language teacher. Just curious.

Hi Fatrichie, Yep, lots and lots of rain, then a little snow, then some more rain to wash the snow away. Rarely a blue sky, and summer only last about 2 weeks. Drives my poor Florida born husband crazy!!

Marbles are, if I remember correctly, the first thing they teach you to wrap in All Wired Up, so I can't take credit for the idea, LOL. It also teaches you how to make a lot of findings, which I thought was very useful! Definitely a book worth looking at.

I really like the marble! You did a great job! I am just learning as well. I have all the tools. Now I just need to sit down and practice, practice and more practice. I did buy some craft wire at Michaels to use. Another good book is Moods in Wire 2nd Edition by Ellsworth Ed Sinclair. That is the book I bought. You may also wish to check that one out at the same time!

Wow those look great! I picked up some wire last weekend and tried to wrap a few polished stones we picked up at the rock shop. Lets just say I was WAY OFF! LOL My wife asked If I needed the tools and I said what for the wire is soft enough to bend with my fingers. I guess you can force things and you can finesse them I like your outcome better.

Good tools will also allow you to work longer, you hands don't get so tired or chewed up. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis so I use tools for everything!! I like shopping for tools better than shoping for clothes, LOL. I bought my Dremel yesterday, will order burrs and wheels today, YIPPEE!!

Marbles are also what you use when starting to learn faceting and cutting angles on a 'Flat Lap'. They work up nicely in a short amount of time. Try to find some without the little air bubbles in them. Apache tears are next -Banjo
