I'm really trying to learn this style and I tell you, my fingers are bleeding!! This was a commission and she's really happy with it. Of course, I keep focusing on the crooked wires, etc. But I love the stones. Both are milky quartz, but I've nicknamed the yellowish tinged quartz as "Kermodei Quartz". Kermodei bears are basically white with a yellow tinge to their fur. I guess momma nature doesn 't keep them stocked up on fur whitener! They're actually in the same family as the black bear (Urus Americanus Kermodei) and are only found in British Columbia. This has a surgical steel frame with fine silver wrapping and sterling silver beads. It's 2.25" x 1.5". It's a LOT lighter than it looks. I forgot to take pic of the back, sorry Tweetie. On the back, the wrap wires criss -cross to hold the stone in...k

Wow great but sure looks like it's a lot of work. Could you take a pic with a quarter or something beside it for size reference?

Yeah... I'm diggin' this one Shelby! I'd like to learn that style as well. Looks like it might be a time consuming teadious process but you're obviously learning it well.

Have you checked out nattywraps.com? something similar to yours, but I have no idea how he gets the stones nestled in there like that...
Yours have me perplexed as well as to how you got the white one in there

Thanks Dan! Yuppers - tedious, but cool because it's like building a puzzle. ;D
Hey Tweetie - I cussed lots!
Actually I coiled the wires then created a swirlie basket, I only connected the coiled wires the depth of the stone, then I inserted the stones and connected the last two swirl wraps on top. Clear as mud?
Yah, nattywraps KILL ME. I cannot begin to figure out how they do half of what they do. I basically started learning this style on a tutorial I downloaded....um,whoozit?, I'll come back when I remember..

I am really intrigued by the weaving stuff I've been seeing you all do. (Can't ya just thread a spring from a ball point pen? Just kidding!) I think it's amazing! I really like the bails that way. Not yet ready to attempt it, just sitting here admiring it. Shelbe, what do you mean by a surgical steel frame? Is that the wires that you wrapped everything else around? If so, I'm trying to figure out how the he** you did that, and kept the stone in place while you did all your springy stuff! Wow!

Hi Karen - yup, it's fascinating to try and figure out (the frame is what all the silver wire is wrapped around-you can see it on the left-hand side where the open weave is) and keeping the stones in place is a juggling act. Here's a link to the tutorial I am learning from: www.studioheath.com/tute003.phpIt costs $25.00 but this person so mind-blindingly talented (have a gander at their gallery) that it'll knock your socks off. I think I have most of these tutorials now and once you see them, you'll see how very far i have to go yet...<sigh>

OK... Shelby, Thanks for the link. Guess I'll have to download that tutorial today... I have some copper wire that I can practice with. I'll probably have to hammer (anneal) some 18g wire for the weave frame but I think it will work nicely. Can't wait to try it!! Dan

Good luck Dan! Can't wait to see your creations!!! Okay, gotta go. The local animal shelter has a bad run of Kennel Cough so I am housing a 3-month old husky-collie-lab cross I'm temporarily naming "George E. Piddles". My Gracie (black lab/terrier/dobie terrified, once badly abused cross) is working at getting him settled down and, well, I think I need to supervise.........................and/or get the mop.

I got the tutorial and just finished looking it over. Looks like every step is detailed and it's well written. If I only make just one nice pendant in this style I think it will be worth the price.
My first attempts will be in copper. Looks like I need to get some 26g wire and I'm all set.
Thanks for posting the pic and link Shelby! Dan

How much do you think she sells those complicated wraps for???
Sigh, it still boggles me...

Tweetie - awe gal, I've seen your work - you'd get the technique and do well in no time at all! I don't think it's really possible to recover the cost, especially not on the labour, for those super-complicated wraps.
