Thanks for the nice replies! This one was a complete surprise, I cut open a pretty ugly & ordinary boulder opal rock with no color whatsoever on the outside and the inside was this stunning pattern. I almost had a heart attack when I saw it, I love this stuff!

That's a 'Holy Crapper' for sure, and it's not even finished!
Here's my tip - make sure you got a rug on the floor wherever you're doin' the cabbin'.

I'm amazed that a rock can look like that on the inside. You're a master at turning them inside-out bud. ;D

Wow. And again, wow, wow, holy cow wow! I never knew a rock could look like that! I'm sure your pic doesn't do it justice, pics never do. You can actually see the 'fire' in so many spots, and that's hard to bring out in a pic! Are you tumbling to finish, or polishing another way? And, what are you going to do w/it when it's done? If you don't have a plan, I would recommend (if you don't do it yourself) having one of the RTH experts do an amazing wire wrap pendant.
And, what's up with the man-made opals? I didn't realize that there is such a thing. Personally, I don't think man could create a rock like that. I think a higher power had something to do with it!

Tony, you and Ed are killing me with your avatars! your work is awesome as is the material - can anyone actually do a bad cab out of those boulder opals? I haven't seen a bad or so-so one yet!

Folks are looking at me -- I apparently said Damn! a lot louder than I wanted to. That's really sweet, Tony. Perhaps it's time to reconsider changing your screen name to Boulder. Thanks for sharing.

Tweet, it happens all the time, somtimes they just don't turn out good or the color is drab or ugly like these: As for the fake opal, I never heard of one and can tell for sure this is real!
