BuiltonRock and LadyB have just sponsored Phase 1 of the BEST EVER Contest for Newbies in which the prize is a box of gorgeous Mozarkite for the most Sincere entry and a box of gorgeous Mozarkite for the most Hilarious entry.
We need your help to determine which two Newbies—one Sincere and one Hilarious—are most deserving of that gorgeous Mozarkite. Please read each of the entries included in this thread and then choose your two favorites by naming the most Sincere individual and the most Hilarious individual in a reply posting. (You will need to indicate both of your choices—one for most Sincere and one for most Hilarious—in the same post.)
Only members of RTH who joined prior to January 1, 2007 are eligible to vote for the two most deserving Newbies in the BEST EVER Contest Phase 2.
The voting will end on July 31, 2007 at 12 Midnight Eastern Time. There will be two winners--the Newbie with the highest number of Most Sincere votes and the Newbie with the highest number of Most Hilarious votes. Each will win a box of gorgeous Mozarkite. [In case of a tie, BuiltonRock will do an unbiased coin-toss to determine the winner.]

When I stumbled onto RTH
I had a normal life.
Since then Rocks have taken over
And I’m always in some strife.
Then I sprung this wire wrapping
and showed that stuff to my wife.
But this box of gorgeous mozarkite
would be great, yes, our delight. ;D

this is something me and my 3 year-old little girl do together. She loves helping wash the rocks. If you ask her she'll tell you they are her rocks. So maybe she's the deserving one. I can only tell you how exciting it would be to open that box together.

despite appearances I am a true Newbie proven by my not having any idea of the existence of Mozarkite ‘til I saw it in your contest. Looking at its fully colored pattern, I think the name must come from a Mozart symphony, proof once again how Newbie I am!

The jewelry sold from the Mozarkite would help raise money so that this program can continue.

I’ve been a rock hound since I can remember. Recently joined a rock club; take field trips; got tumblers; took lapidary classes…Currently, I’m a full-time student (bad back forced a career change). I can't afford the Mozarkite now but I would love to have some in my collection. Thank you.

grind rocks and baby sit baby birds at the same time! Ten days back I noticed a birds nest at the base of my water supply. Next came eggs. Now hungry babies. The nest is 3 feet from my arbor yet mother brings food while I polish. Rock zen....

I like Mozarkite. I think the box should go to a newbie just starting out. I don't think I am by any stretch the funniest person on the RTH Board or the most deserving? IF I got the box I would have to send a slab to everyone who entered.

I work too many hours a week at a job I despise and never get to go out and look for rocks. If I did I would probably post too many pictures in the “What’s This Rock?” thread. So my winning is in the best interest of all RTH members.

I am also a Newbie to rock cutting and cabbing. I am amazed at the beauty within the stones. I’ve collected different types of lapidary rough, but starting out, I don’t have a lot. The Mozarkite would be put to very good use giving me some beautiful material to cut.

my wife & I thoroughly enjoy visiting this forum every day, especially the photos demonstrating the love, devotion & attention to detail given to our love of ROCKS! And I've learned from this forum that there is definitely still hope for humanity seeing how kind & generous everyone here is.

I’m a family man; love being a dad. I do "hobbies" with my kids to make memories. Whether it’s flying a kite or model rocket, digging for and tumbling rocks, or hatching chickens in the incubator. Is Mozarkite just another polished rock to make? Not to me...I'm making memories.

I have the saddest story. I have three little tumblers at home to feed but the only rocks in my area worth feeding to them are driveway stone. My driveway is almost gone and my tumblers have a big appetite. Please help me feed my poor starving tumblers.

I am an adherent of the standard [Copenhagen] interpretation of quantum mechanics. So the Mozarkite exists in a state of superposition until the probability wave-function is collapsed by measurement, i.e. observation. Since I have provided the explanation for it's existence, it should be mine, mine, mine!

While I know that some of the voters really, REALLY, really want the entrants of their respective choices to win those boxes of gorgeous Mozarkite, I must restrict the voting as follows:
Each eligible voter may vote once for a Serious entrant and once for a Hilarious entrant. (No double voting and no changes, once I have acknowledged your vote.)
Each eligible voter's vote will count as 1 vote regardless of how many votes said voter would like to cast for an eligible Newbie.
Thank you for your understanding and your voting.
