Poetry of Images Entries—Second Group of Ten
Hello Fellow RTH Members.
Phase 1 of the Poetry of Images Contest closed as of Midnight ET on Thursday, August 23, 2007. I was overwhelmed by the supportive response to my first solo contest. In all, 21 RTH members submitted a total of 50 poems! My original plan was to begin Phase 2—the Judging Phase—on Saturday, August 25th. Judging was to remain open until 12 Midnight, Saturday, September 1, 2007, and the winners were to be announced on Sunday, September 2, 2007.
I want to give everyone here at RTH the opportunity to enjoy each of these poems as much as I have. It just wouldn’t be fair to the poets and all of their hard and dedicated work to post all of their poems in one enormously long thread and post all of them at once as originally planned. So I am offering just ten poems per day over a period of five days. This Thursday, August 30th, I will then post the specific rules for how you can cast your THREE votes via a PM to me. [If you attempt to cast your votes before 12:01 AM Friday, August 31st, I will simply return them to you and ask you to re-submit them when the Judging Phase formally opens.]
Please feel welcome to post supportive critiques and comments about the poems in each of the five Poetry of Images Entries threads. This is your chance to show support for your favorite poem or poet; indulge in shameless self-promotion if you are the author of one of these wonderful poems; and campaign for votes when the judging opens on Friday, August 31, 2007 (via PM to Lady B).
Here is the second group of ten poems for your reading pleasure. They are posted in sub-groupings: Poems follow the respective images from the Gallery of Photos that inspired the poets.
The poems and their respective poets included in this thread are: The Dragonfly Takes to Wing by dtcmor; My Daughter by huffstuff; Pink Ribbons by krazydiamond; Stone Jones by Tony W; Her Highness by BuiltonRock.; Moon by Stefan; Invasion by tonyterner; Glass Candy Haiku by sabre52; Who-What-Where Am I by connrock; and Rock Pox by pporky.

The Dragonfly Takes to Wing
by dtcmor
Metallic wings on a moonlit night,
Dragonfly whispers soon take flight.
Shining frame of perfect solitude,
Dancing on air to set the mood.
The dragonfly takes to wing.
Held in wonder by those who seek,
Strong flowing lines that look so sleek.
Crafted with pride by careful hand.
Ready to soar across the land.
The dragonfly takes to wing.
From bended metal and shining stone,
Its graceful beauty will condone,
An air of peaceful harmony,
A flapping buzz of melody.
The dragonfly takes to wing.
Passed on to others, so they may see,
The visions that did come to thee,
By creating a mirrored reflection of life,
To heal the heart and lift the strife.
The dragonfly takes to wing.
Fly, and spread your wings, be free,
So others might, inspired, be.
To craft such beauty as in you,
And share it in a different view.
The dragonfly takes to wing.
It raises wings into the breeze,
Aiming for the highest trees.
Ready to fly in skies of blue
And mystify both me and you.
The dragonfly takes to wing.

My Daughter
by huffstuff
My daughter melted my lipsticks
Her favorite color is pink
Her second favorite is brown, you see
I'll put her in time-out, I think.

Pink Ribbons
by krazydiamond
Twirly, Whirly, Little Girlie,
Pink Ribbons in her hair.
Curley, Swirly, Topsy-Turvy,
She wears them everywhere.
Long and Flowing, almost Glowing,
Pink Ribbons at the Fair.
Light and Airy, Banners Flaring,
Causing crowds to stare.
Singing, Swinging, Joking, Laughing,
A day without a care.
Ballerinas, horses prancing,
And even a Dancing Bear!

Stone Jones, Water drip.
Gladly, sick. The fever breaks

Her Highness
by BuiltonRock.
I woke this morning early,
Your strength upon my screen.
Gazing at your royal form,
I suddenly felt serene.
A deeper look revealed,
Nobility rarely seen.
Arrogance and confidence,
Not unlike a Queen.
I turned to go and realized,
Your peace within remains.
Examination of my soul,
I still cannot explain.
Compare to popping of a cork?
The drinking of Champaign.
More like an understanding,
That in your world you reign.
There is a crown on your head,
Perched upon your brow.
It lights your face, shows your depth,
But doesn’t fit somehow.
Still your rock hard subjects,
Kneel, stoop and bow.
Each one in turn submits his will,
And with their life they vow.
Your strength upon my screen.
Gazing at your royal form,
I suddenly felt serene.
A deeper look revealed,
Nobility rarely seen.
Arrogance and confidence,
Not unlike a Queen.

Moon
by Stefan
Never have I seen
sunlight so reflected
Never will I remember
Winter dances snow white swirls
Never will I grasp
rising moon or naked tree

Never will I remember
Winter dances snow white swirls
Never will I grasp
rising moon or naked tree

Invasion
by tonyterner
Rock, rock, that's all anyone talks about.
They walk around staring, always at this rock..
My friends, my family, they are not themselves.
Rock, this rock, absorbs them, controls them?
They all have them, want me to have one too.
I resist, something inside me fears
This rock. What is this rock? Intriguing.
I pick one up and look inside, inside it’s moving,
Boiling, no, bubbling, no, it’s reaching for the surface.
Rock, this rock, it’s alive. Alive!
Wanting, reaching trying to get something,
Something, what does it want?
Rock, rock, I must put it down.
It’s coming, coming out for me,
Oh no, me, it’s me it wants.
Rock, pain, oh the pain,
I must….
They walk around staring, always at this rock..
My friends, my family, they are not themselves.
Rock, this rock, absorbs them, controls them?
They all have them, want me to have one too.
I resist, something inside me fears

Who-What-Where Am I
by connrock
Who am I to you my friend
Do I give you warmth and peace
Can you hear me speak to you
With the beauty I release
What am I to you my friend
A rock, a gem, a stone
Or something that's held close to you
When you're sad and all alone
Where am I with you my friend
I'm never far away
I'm where you know I'll always be
To bring you joy each day
Do I give you warmth and peace
Can you hear me speak to you
With the beauty I release
What am I to you my friend
A rock, a gem, a stone
Or something that's held close to you
When you're sad and all alone
Where am I with you my friend
I'm never far away
I'm where you know I'll always be
To bring you joy each day

Rock Pox
by pporky
Now I’ve gone and caught the rocks pox,
And I’ve got it pretty bad,
So don’t you start a laughing,
‘Cos it’s nearly sent me mad.
I started out just looking,
But soon that weren’t enough,
So then I started picking up,
So I could feel that lovely stuff.
Now when those rocks were in my hand,
I was compelled for more,
And then would you believe it?
They were right before my jaw!
The next move was instinctive;
I soon knew this was no game,
But me tongue lashed out and licked one,
And now I’ll never be the same.
It turned out that it was dino poo,
And now don’t think I am a liar,
But when that stuff had touched my tongue,
It set my mouth on fire!
My kidneys both are jaded now;
In my leg I have a quartzite vein;
Doc says me liver’s petrified,
And I’ve agatized my brain.
But that don’t stop me licking rocks,
Much to my wife’s disgust;
She says they’re dirty horrid things,
But to me it’s only dust.
I licked one piece the other day,
And I’ve come down with opal fever,
But it only made my wife real mad,
She suggested I should leave her.
She was only joking though!
Now she’s got the wrapping craze;
So all my cabs I give to her,
Though she most likes chrysoprase.
Now thank you friends, for reading,
The poem that I wrote,
And don’t forget ol’ pporky,
When the time comes round to vote!
And I’ve got it pretty bad,
