Lady B’s POETRY OF IMAGES Contest General Rules for the Judging Component 1.) Every member of RTH, with the exception of Lady B, is entitled to ONE SET of THREE votes. 2.) All votes must be sent via a PM to ladybeabea. 3.) Votes must be sent no earlier than 12:01 AM Eastern Time, Friday, August 31, 2007 and no later than 3:00 PM Eastern Time, Wednesday, September 12, 2007.4.) Members may cast their 3 votes all at the same time or in separate PMs as decisions are made re: who should receive each of the 3 votes. 5.) Votes may be changed at any time during the judging period as long as they are sent via personal message to ladybeabea. 6.) All PMs sent to Lady B will be acknowledged by return PM. I will also acknowledge RTH members who have voted in a general post each day via this Thread. 7.) The 21 Contestants who submitted poems for this contest are encouraged to participate in the judging process and are welcome to cast votes for their own respective poems, if they so choose. 8.) During the Judging Phase of this contest all RTH members are welcome, and encouraged, to post supportive messages re: the poems under consideration. An example of such a post might be: "I really enjoyed Lady B’s poem 'Legacy' that was inspired by Jonge 2. I like the feel of seashells in my hand and can almost hear the ocean waves when I read that poem.” Or you might want to rally votes for a favored poem with a message such as “WOW! I really liked that poem Lady B wrote—'One by One'. If any of you RTHers out there haven’t read it yet, it deserves some attention.” I am asking, however, that you do not blatantly state how you voted in this thread, as in " ”I think the Grand Prize should go to Lady B’s “Legacy”; the second prize to “One by One” by Lady B; and for third prize—Lady B’s poem “Rumble Tumble” was the funniest one I read in the whole competition.”" Specific Rules for the Judging Component - You are each entitled to ONE SET of THREE votes.
- When you vote please identify both the Poet and the poem by name. (Several Poets submitted more than one poem and I want to be certain your votes are tallied correctly.)
- Please cast your votes in a PM to me , as follows:
GRAND PRIZE WINNER ( GPW): Awarded to the individual whose poem best reflects the beauty, the meaning, or the fun of the image in the accompanying photo chosen as the inspiration for the poem. FIRST RUNNER-UP WINNER ( FRU): Awarded for the best overall poem regardless of the accompanying photo chosen as the inspiration for the poem. (In other words: It is a great poem, but it doesn’t quite match the image in the photo.) SECOND RUNNER-UP WINNER ( SRU): Awarded for the funniest poem regardless of the accompanying photo chosen as the inspiration for the poem. When you send me the PM(s) with your choices it is not necessary or required that you explain your choices but it would be great fun for me to hear the “why” behind your votes. I love to read, think about, and critique poems. I also enjoy reading what others think about poems, too. Any comments you send will be confidential unless you give me permission to post those comments and even then, I will post them only as “ From an Anonymous Reader”. In order to help jog memories I am re-posting the Threads for the Photos, the Poets, and their respective poems below. THANK YOU ALL very, very much for your wonderful support of this contest and all of these incredible Poets. The Prize Winners will be announced Friday, September 14, 2007. Lady B

Okay, can I get a clarification of the voting rules?
We cast one vote for best poem that reflects the image perfectly.
We cast one vote for best poem that doesn't quite jive in our minds with the image.
and
We cast one vote for the funniest poem.
Correct? If so, I have to rethink my choices!

You have got it perfectly! (Now, just to make it a little bit more challenging...how the poem reflects the image is all in the eyes of the beholders. What one person sees might not be there for someone else, so if you feel the poem connects somehow to the image, or perhaps to the purpose of the image, or maybe even the "creator" of the image and the poem just clicks for you, then that would be your GPW choice! Choosing the funniest poem depends on your own sense of humor and will probably be an easier choice for many of the readers. Ultimately, the choices are absolutely up to the readers. No one has to agree or disagree with what I think or feel or experience when I read these poems. )
And all I can say is...I am really, really glad that I don't have the responsibility of casting votes. There are so many realy good poems to choose from...

I didn't really know where I wanted to plug this post in, so I guess I will put it here. I went back through and read everyones poems again and all of the comments accociated with them - the praises, the good natured ribbing and solicitations and so forth. I began to see more than just a contest. The poems are part of it, but the heart and soul that came from the creations are truly eye opening. It is a side of the great people here that is always known, often talked about, and greatly appreciated. Through this contest, I feel my eyes have been opened - literally! What I once saw as a "pretty cool rock", or a "fantastic jewlery piece", is so much more now. It carries with it the imagination of the person that created it, and gives more-so back to the person that views it. It also gives a new understanding of the person behind the creation. I can honestly say that I will never look at rocks the same way again, and that each piece has a new meaning for me now. In keeping with Kate's theme of poetry I would like to offer her, and everyone else, this poem that was truly inspired by all, and this great place (RTH) you all are a part of...... Of Rocks and Friends Inspiration did come, from those we know here, with this hobby we share, and will always hold dear. There seems much more meaning to that which we see. We owe a big thanks, to the Great Laby B! I can truly say now, that I see it more clearly. The things we share here, can be held much more dearly. My eyes have been opened, my heart has been blessed. And to think that it started, with Kate's poetry contest. Now as I look, at the things you all post, I see more of the person -not the rocks I like most. Inspired I am, by friends here so dear, with your offerings of praises, goodwill and great cheer. It's not just a hobby for me any more. It's the value of friendships, of that I am sure. What comes from your hearts, and is shared readily, Makes RTH feel like home, and ONE BIG FAMILY. Cheers to everyone here, and all that you offer! Dave

Dave that's awesome!
We come from all different walks of life and different parts of the world but we all have that one single thing in common,,,,,
Giving!!!!
During this contest we all did our best to give and I don't mean only the participants or Kate, who ran the contest, but also the people who responded every day.
Giving has always been a big part of my life and it makes me feel so very happy to see that it is also a big part of others lives too!!
Like Elmew would say:
Wock Tumbwin Hobby peopwe awe GWEAT!!!

The following is a message I sent LadyB during the entry phase, but I feel it is most appropriately shared here today. It has to do with the following picture from Redwoodrocks. Kate, My prayer for you today is that you also have peace beyond understanding and that you are content and happy in your bowl. As I look at the picture of Redwood's bowl of rocks, I see you in the upper left hand quadrant. You are the bright red triangle! Many around you seem drawn to your warmth, others are made more beautiful by the contrast. Although you are not the center of things, many are looking and focusing on you, because they know you lift them up. Thanks for all you do! john

You know, there are two very important things to remember here: 1) " It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature"--a campaign ad for a margerine many years ago--is something I think all of us here at RTH hold close to our hearts. We could not possibly get so excited about a stone, lovingly share a harvest of rock, sculpt a cab, or wrap a pendant the way we do if we did not first RESPECT Mother Nature and all that Nature has to offer. Would that more Earthlings were a part of our RTH Family. Perhaps Mother Nature would not be so sadly scarred and abused. 2) It is never appropriate to bring the sponsor of an RTH Contest to tears, albeit happy ones. It makes it very difficult for me to see the keyboard and type witty comebacks. I'll end up having to change my newly won moniker of Lady BLABBERPOSTER ;D to Lady BLUBBERPOSTER. There really are no words to express all that I am feeling today--joy, peace, contentment, renewed passion, gratitude, soulful laughter, happiness, validation, LOVE--so I will simply say Thank You. What an amazingly wonderful experience this has been. I have definitely tumbled into something good! Kate

Just a note of appreciation to Stefan, Tony W, Harry, krazydiamond, tonyterner, and BuiltonRock. for getting the rock tumbling, so to speak, in the voting. It’s early days yet…no one Poet is the Front-Runner! ;D

Thank you akansan, emyhro4048, adrian65, and beefjello for sending in your votes. I’m starting to see a trend but this contest has a ways to go before anything definite can be declared! Lady B

No, no, Amy, There is still plenty of time to go crazy over these poems. Judging doesn't close until next week. You can pick different winners every day and change your mind twice each day and still have time to vote before the judging ends. See how considerate I was of everyone? Plenty of time to go crazy!!! Friday! Friday! We gotta wait until Friday! I need something to calm me down after my foolhardy attempt at Mel's contest. I guess I'll have to turn to alcohol instead.

is this the part where LadyB dons the tin foil hat and looks deeply into the bag of grit for the answers?
