Hmmm, I'm with your original post on the home-made, so I don't have much to suggest in the way of store-bought reds. But this reminds me, I've got 10 gallons of red wine that needs filtering and bottling... it's been sitting in 5 gallon carboys since January. Oh well, I guess it can age there until I get around to dealing with it, a bit more age should just make it better

I always liked Maderia. It may be too sweet for your taste. Also, was pricey in 1970, last time I drank any. In my wilder days.
Hey, you can take the bottles, break and tumble them to make some "sea glass" for your plants or to display. See there... rock related.

Don't think I can help you much Sands. Generally I don't care for wine and can't stand the dry stuff. Needs to be on the sweeter side for me. I did find one that I really like, it's Wild Vines Blackberry Merlot. I'm guessing around $10.00 a bottle but not quite sure as my daughter gave it to me.

Hey Sands, I'm just logging on this morning and seeing this thread ;D I buy a brand called Vandage. It's downright cheap but I like the taste, closer to dry than sweet, but I prefer it that way. My second choice, actually Bolla! That was the first Merlot I ever tried and thus the love affair began When I had back problems years ago, wine was my salvation, helped me relax and take the stress off the muscles. Then it was Chardennay. (More bang for the buck). It also made my viens pop when I weight trained and posed. Now I'm a red wine girl. Hell, I'm just a wino, however you want to put it. cookie

I think the term you're looking for is "winette"!

i was for the longest time a white Zinfendal girl but i have switched to red wine the past few years. i highly reccomend the Franzia Merlot in the 5 liter box. it's nice tasting AND economical that way. and it lasts pretty long in the box, well, depending on your useage!
as far as bottled wine, we found an extremely nice Cabernet Sauvignon (i believe they make it in a Merlot as well) called Forestville. it's Californian and it goes about $6 bucks a bottle! we buy that by the case and it works out to be $5/bottle.
we try other wines occasionally, hubby is partial to french wine, but i prefer australian.
look around for that Forestville, Sands, you won't be disappointed.

Lol...
The one I just saw was about Auto parts... Do you think it's reading our minds? (Don's a tin-foil hat in great respect for Doc)
Have to pick up the car tomorrow from the repair shop. Son had an accident (not his fault) and I was literally thinking I need a vacation cause of all the stress lately! Guess what it is when I'm writing this? About vacations.
(turns off the Twilight Zone music....I'm getting spooked)

More twilight zone theme, only funnier.... This time I got auto parts and stuff, including one that is in German, I hit the link and it was all in German, but what I really like was that the ad read kinda like:
abefahren gutemspzaler gadnoplatz etc. etc. but the final word was "schmuck." Seriously no kidding.

in German "schmuck" means "decoration"..?? as in maybe car detailing?
and i think "fahren gutemspzaler gadnoplatz" means "drive more, go faster, go more places" but i could be wrong.
i did a sojourn in Germany when i was 19 years old, when i was still indestrucible and impervious to harm and had no fear.
i have a love of languages. everyone should know how to order a beer and ask for toilet paper in seveal languages.
