A couple more for your comments. I did try something new and am not real fond of it. I took a piece of Royal Sahara Jasper and tried to frame it. I am not real happy with the joint lines. Maybe the next one will be better. Here it is: This second one I decided to do a two color frame around the actual cab. I kind of like. What do you think? As always I appreciate your comments. gary

Love the two color frame, and really like the RSJ. It's a whole new ballgame, folks.

I think they are both awesome. Maybe you can do a mitered corner..but I rea;lly like the 1st one...even though you aren't to happy with it. I think we all tend to judge ourselves harsher than anyone else will. I really like what you did with the second one to. You keep coming up with some really super great ideas! Thanks for sharing your works of art! Steve

Really neat idea you have there. If the joint lines upset you , you might try some Lure Craft two part epoxy paint as a grout material. It's extreamly hard, sets up in about one hour and comes in every color you need. It can also be reused by placing it in a bottle and freezing. If upon warming for a second use and it has thickened simply add a small amount of slow dry Lacquer Thinner.

Both are very striking cabs. The RSJ one looks really cool and the other one has lots of striking colors - I really like the OJ/lace combo. Great job on both!

They're both great looking Gary. I like the idea of framing a great cab.

I REALLY like them both! Another idea for your frames is to do a pinwheel, like this: It wouldn't be suitable for all frames, but for some it would work.

Oh, I LOVE the Sahara jasper one...I think that actually might be one of my favorites that you've done! I like the 2nd one, too. The contrasting frame colours really add flair to the cab.

Oh, both of them are great! But that first one, picturing a T-rex, would have been great without the frame too. That RSJ is one of a kind! The second one is my fav regarding your special technique. Beautiful color contrast and technical achievement!

Ooooh, I really like the first two. I agree with michaeljohn, his pinwheel frame idea would be very nice with that design, too.
I like the second one, too. I wonder what that design would look like with only 2 colors - the dark in the frame being the same as the dark inside, same with the light. Just another idea for you to play with (if you haven't already).
They're great, keep them coming!

Hello Everyone from Africa!
We have been VERY busy the past few months wrapping up our operations here in the Sahara and apologize for not getting online sooner to all our friends here to keep you posted on what's happening.
We have made arrangements for our shipment back to the U.S. and will be returning back to the U.S. the end of this month (Jan.) permanently after working the RSJ dig site for the past 2 years. It's been a lot of work, but we think it was worth it.
On the heels of the Feb. issue of Lapidary Journal; we really wanted to get back for Tucson this year; but the camels wouldn't cooperate. We are really looking forward to our return and to be able to concentrate on getting RSJ out to you on a regular basis.
We plan on overhauling the website in Feb. with an expected opening date of our new online store by March. We are also trying to find shows that have openings for this summer season (2008) in the Pacific Northwest so if anybody has suggestions or knows of any openings perhaps through your local clubs, please let us know via email to:
info@royalsaharajasper.com
The help will be GREATLY appreciated and will assist us in making material available to you directly for viewing at local shows. Being a half a world away with only occasional dial-up services is not conducive to being able to do as much as we want to and getting back to Washington State (Everett) will be considered a blessing to us!
Well, gotta run. Still a few more things to clean up here before the container arrives for the "Big Move" this Monday coming.
We want to thank everybody for your patience during these past two years and for making Royal Sahara Jasper what it is today. When we see the new approaches to cutting RSJ (Faceting, Framing, Free Style, etc.); we consider these efforts to be major compliments to this gorgeous material and makes us personally feel that all our efforts were worthwhile.
Take care and our warmest regards to all our Lapidary friends;
Janet & George

Gary, Looks like you've become an advertiser for RSJ! ;D I looked back at some of OPCRSJ's other posts, and they have offered to showcase people's RSJ work for 1000's to see... what an opportunity.... ... but then you might be inundated by people who think you have lots of RSJ fantasy cabs to sell! I mean no offense to OPCRSJ, but I think their post would have been more appropriate, and receive broader viewing, in the "vendors" section or the "general" section. Amy
